Let me tell you why pro critics hate movies like this, but audiences love them. Movie critics are college-educated and come from the perspective of literary criticism, not necessarily the visual arts. They watch movies like this, and they're like "Ugh, the plotting and dialogue", because their first impulse is to break down a movie based on what the characters say, like they were reading a novel.

Video gamers are the exact opposite. We absorb visual media in a more strictly visual way. A good part of video gaming is tracking and reacting to objects and obstacles. We engage the parts of the brain that react to motion, light, shapes, colors. We're very occipital-lobe-centric people. Because of that, we also absorb stories in a very visual way. Game designers use shape language to make things in video games looc recognizable and iconic, and to tell stories visually. There is a bit of overlap there with filmmaking, because movies are not novels. Like video games, they also tell stories visually. John Wick shows you exactly what he's all about from the moment you see him hunched in an isosceles stance with a pistol while wearing one of his impeccable suits. H.R. Giger's Xenomorphs instantly tell you what they're all about without any dialogue at all.

Jeff Fowler knows this. He's a very clever guy. Let me show you how clever he is.


There is so much meaning packed into this one minute, it's hilarious. The CGI characters are very expressive; thanks to this, the VFX artists have managed to imbue a boatload of subtle body language into literally every goddamn frame. Play it in slow-mo, or frame-by-frame. You can literally watch Sonic shift from disbelief, to denial, to rage, and imagine him having protective thoughts towards his adoptive family.

What an incredible visual treat these movies are. They revised and improved their lighting pipeline in the sequel, and it shows. Look at the bounce lighting on Sonic's face, the subtle sheen of the fur. Fucking incredible. They didn't need this kind of attention to detail for a kids' movie, but they went all-out anyway. This is a labor of love, and I can't help but admire it for that.

The Sonic movies are a feat of visual storytelling on-par with Mad Max: Fury Road. The dialogue and plotting are an accessory to the visual feast.

Is Arlo even a Sonicfag? Just sounds like he's spouting bullshit about how the movie is nothing like the games despite most everything in it being from the games and other obscure sources minus the wedding and human couple bs. He doesn't even give any actual constructive or humorous criticism. Makes it seem as though this muppet-wannabe never even played Sonic Adventure 1&2.

He's just a dumbass Nintendrone like Movieblob who seethe that a Sonic movie that isn't just a SATAM rehash is successful.

If it's a Perfect Chaos vs Biolizard I feel like Chaos would win which would be where Sonic and Shadow have to fight Chaos themselves, hell Chaos could probably even exorbitant the chao energy from Biolizard to become even stronger.

Either way if that is a thing that happens if the third film they better make a mashup of "Live and Learn" and "Open your heart" somewhere in it.

Also as a final note, the said hypothetical kaiju fight could be even stupider, after all, Metal Sonic may make an appearance in the film.

God this idea would of made me autsiticly squeal if I was still like 10 lol
 
just saw the movie and it was a BLAST! it was the perfect sequel in my book. Tails and Knuckles were perfectly introduced, eggman/robotnik being such a fun but also, threatening bad guy and i even go as far to say, i actually liked the human characters this time around! the voice for knuckles fits so well and tails doesn't have the most annoying voice (that going to sonic heroes tails).

the echidna and owls sub plot was done well and how they introduced the chaos and master emerald. i got so fucking hyped seeing eggman of all things turn into super (hyper?) eggman! his powers were cool as hell even if he felt a bit like a magneto rip off (which sonic calls him out on lol). super sonic looked so cool and i hope he makes a return in the next movie!

the weeding being a glow in the dark CIA psyop had me laugh my fucking ass off!

i look forward too see what they gonna do with shadow. i was hoping to see metal sonic first or maybe have sonic and the gang visit tails home planet that may or may not have some of the other characters like Amy or Cream

who were the mercs that were with knuckles at the begging? could not have been echidnas beacuse he says his the last one. what happen with the echidna and clew? what planet is tails from? so many sequel baits

EGGMAN USED FUCKING CHAOS CONTROL BEFORE SHADOW DOSE!?

overall, looking forward to the next movie.
