Interestingly, the Ettin fiasco is far from the first time that goons have gone into hysterics over a dubious rape allegation that fell to pieces. There’s a mindset over there that false rape accusations literally do not exist and any suggestion to the contrary is enabling rapists (and thus tantamount to being one). Any instance where someone screams rape is grounds for a Jim Crow lynching of the accused; back when Kobe Bryant died you had some jokesters trying to bait each other into saying that because there were some sex abuse allegations surrounding Kobe Bryant he deserved extrajudicial punishment as prescribed by a killer mob. The sole exceptions to the #believeallwomen principle are when the accused is a horny troon, or Aatrek.
My favorite instance of goons having a meltdown over the possibility of false rape allegations existing was the Movie Reviews column on the front page, when they reviewed Gone Girl. Part of that film’s plot is that a woman attempts to destroy a man’s life by accusing him of sexual violence and fabricating the evidence, which includes rape injuries that are actually self-mutilation. SA’s movie reviewers were already a laughingstock for shit like the female plane copypasta, and their review of Gone Girl was one long, drawn out hissy fit about how the film was letting actual rapists get away with actual rape.
