years and years ago an AI goon helped me fix my car and i kept him friended on facebook. seemed like a normal guy, only posted about cars, didn't come off as a goon. i kind of forgot about him and then in 2016 he sent me a scathing paragraph about how we can't be friends anymore because i voted for trump. 🤓

my personal understanding of doxx etymology warning autism:

dox originates from docs which is shorthand for documents. i think it might predate the worldwide web, if not it was an early internet thing.
the second x on doxx either originated from its spelling/pronounciation in some other languages bleeding over, or from leetspeak "haxx" hard to say which one or when it began.
around 2005-7 several electronic security companies had the word doxx in their name. it started to become common internet vernacular between 2008-10, it began to be used by normies in 2012 and has been widely used since 2014.
goons have claimed ownership of the word since a little bit after the first toxx clause, its nothing new.

i don't think the original toxx clause on somethingawful had even happened for a few years when the second x started showing up in doxx but i don't quite remember exactly what year toxx became a thing since it was so long ago.
if i have the timeline right in my head, reddit's first mention of the word doxx might predate the toxx clause too lol. somethingawful has an overinflated sense of importance.

I've always seen doxx spelled with two X's. Except when it was nudes hack, which made it doxxx
