Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

Yes, "ease back a little on the "comedy posts" on our "comedy" forum".

And Lowtax wonders why his business is failing?

It goes on, but this dogshit forum software won't display the last two images for whatever reason. Anyway, at least a few people realized how stupid it was and tried to get the thread back on track, so I expect a wave of probations/bans when FAG or whoever gets wind of this crimethink.

I've been working on a labor of autism lately, and I thought I'd share an interesting bit of information that popped up. I wanted to make a graph of new users per day to give visual aid to SA's decline, and it worked out fine. I marked the date of every 10,000th user ID and graphed it.

Spike in '04, irreversible decline from 2013 forward. Every date projected in the future is assuming it stays at 5 new user IDs per day for years without changing, or, in fewer words, the future numbers are bullshit, ignore them.

Well, after that, I decided that adding every 5,000th ID wouldn't take that much longer, and smoothing out the big hump would give the whole thing more vertical breathing room. The '04 hump indeed smoothed out, but another hump emerged.

Now, that spike in 2013 and the plummet afterwards are often considered to be the point where the forum lost any chance of general interest. I decided to zero in on that time point to see exactly how sharp that weird spike before the end was.

Pretty fucking sharp. October 9th, 2012 saw 334 new users in one day. The ID count went up by 1200 in the second and third weeks of that October. This is accentuating those days and smoothing out everything else, but I'm not quite to the point of recreationally scraping all 224000 user join dates from the site.

I've seen people claim on here that the surge of terminally online turbofaggots that joined because of the Dangan Ronpa LP in 2012 was the death of the forum, and that theory sounds pretty compelling now.

[ LIKE 15 PAGES OF A MAN ARGUING THAT MAYBE STALIN WAS A GOOD GUY ]

The only thing surprising about those images is the fact that only one guy was pro-Stalin, instead of all of them.

i guess this place is as good as any to post why i left that shit show
I guess of all the people on that excerpt, the person I'd most like to see given the bastinado is Diqnol. "Quoted so you can't take it back".

In East Germany he'd be the little fucking snitch for the Stasi, ratting on his neighbors for a few "attaboys".

Snitches get stitches, and then end up in ditches.

I'm fucking dying over the Dangan Ronpa spike, that makes so much fucking sense. Of course an invasion of tumblr weebs would be the forums' death knell.

Until I decide to write a scraping script, I'll stop here. Something weird happens on May 31 and June 1 of 2000 with hundreds of IDs between those two dates, and that was before accounts were paid, anyway, so I left it off the graph. The future projection was stupid, too.

Finding valid accounts before 30000 was a bitch. I eventually had to dig through the oldest threads in the goldmine for users from 2001 and 2000 that weren't <deleted user>, so I only have 7 data points before 2002. Lowtax's account is 1999, but I don't even think that means anything. I found one guy with a 1988 regdate.

My account that had archives got nuked and I'm not giving SA any more money, so I can't go into the actual Dangan Ronpa thread to confirm anything, but there are a handful of really frustrated probations in the Leper Colony for things like LP spoilers in the first weeks of October 2012. It could be that the surge didn't start posting right away. I was honestly expecting pages of slowbeef losing his temper at retards with no understanding of SA.
