I met my boyfriend (and hopefully eventual husband) through just hearing his voice. I liked his view points, personality, and his humor. He wasn't employed at the time and I didn't know about his work history. I didn't actually see him for some time until some photos of him were posted (against his will) and he was pretty cute (kinda pudgy too).

Although you say "hot girl" so I don't think I apply (not any kinda dis-formed hambeast, but I'd never say "hot". Eww.)

Sure there is the 'norm' amongst people, but people differ. I'd like to think the people view attraction as a mutual connection between themselves and their possible partner. Of course how one looks can matter, but its not the end all factor. Personality changes how people view you. I've known guys where I probably wouldn't have given them a second glace, but them I got to know them and how they became more attractive. If your a nice, decent person, it shows.

Anyways just my 2 cents.

If he was noticeably below your league, he'd have had to compensate... doesn't sound like he did.

And yes, personal connections and such matter... once somebody actually meets the threshold.
