I think what I hate the most about the (|) mouth, especially for animation, is that they're often really unflexible when it comes to making expressions. Because they already make the face so busy, they don't actually move in tandem with the mouth so you're left with this weird array of faces were the mouths all look like: (P) (\) (C) (V) (<) (D)

It somehow manages to mute whatever emotion you were going for.

I've said it before but the ( | ) lips really are just an excuse to not learn how to draw lips. The biggest problem with these lips making expressions is that they never change. When a real person makes an extreme expression, the lips are pulled taught and the shape changes. The curves are different, and the overall shape is thinner. The way these lips are drawn (both on tumblr and in a "professional" cartooning environment) completely neglects that. They remain a constant shape no matter how the mouth moves, which makes them seem bizarre and artificial, like they're just sausages stapled on top of the face as an accessory, rather than actually being a part of it.

I guess cause the character is suposed to be a dragon from mexican folklore i guess they thought they should be mexican too?

Why not, but only when it's well done, here, the artist was really lazy: they only come up is a poncho with somes randoms patterns on it, a wrislet for some reason and black hair. At the end the character just looks likes a random poncahontas-OC-like.

A character have to be memorable, and that sometimes means less limits, and that's why the original Lucoa looks way different from her dragon origins. Note that she's a modern girl who likes to visit the Earth which happens on the 21st century, she would be boring with all these mexicans things, plus, the dragons have to be inconspicuous, not sure this design will work around japanese people (even tho she has big boobs lol).

So yeah, if you want to make a good redesign, first of all, don't do it for the sake of "diversity uwu" and actually learn more about characterization as well learn anatomy would be good too (snowball hand is pure laziness).

Imagine being such a shut-in that you think that simply owning a pair of breasts is equivalent to being a hooker or some shit.
