He shouldn't have had to color them in; there are several references to their their race in the text, as I said before. Which kind of also proves that the Tumblrina fans didn't read it, they just looked at the pictures.

I'm not going to go dig all of it up, because people have done it a million times before. But here's a quick summary:

Human characters were referred to as "pink" and "pale" by the aliens several times, most famously when Kanaya says that Rose is "white as a ghost". Dave's brother (Dirk) is explicitly described as a "white rapper" (later changed to "a white guy who raps"). Terezi sends Dave a bunch of pictures of guys she thinks look like him, all of whom are white 90s kids wearing sunglasses.

Interestingly, though, there's still a little bit left up to interpretation. The Harleys/Egberts/Whatevers are sometimes interpreted to be Asian, which I think started when Jade was given an Asian-sounding musical motif. This would also still fit in with them being described as "pink" and "pale". There are also several trolls who are "coded" as human non-white races, albeit in a very stereotypical manner (so much so that people have argued this to be racist, because of fucking course they have). Meenah has some pretty obvious, uh... "AAVE" going on, and one of the shitty beta trolls is a parody of a Japanese schoolgirl.

But none of this should fucking matter, anyway; the quality of a story should not be judged by how "diverse" it is*. All of the politics aside, it's a big cluttered mess of a comic and its only saving grace is how well-written and funny the characters are. Boom. That's all that needs to be said.

*Not to mention that this particular comic has a shitload of LGBT representation anyway! Literally half of the human characters are some shade of bisexual or gay, and trolls are all bisexual by default.

The first is Harry Potter and Lupin and the second is Teddy Lupin and older Harry Potter who is apparrently Indian despite the fact he's super not. The first is from the scene where Lupin is teaching Harry how to make a patronus and I guess the below is Harry doing the same for Teddy.

It was one of the first fandoms that people noticed being flooded by Homestucks due to them all keeping on top of the fan translation on Something Awful.

Said Homestucks were very upsetti when SA put the Dangan Ronpa thread behind a paywall. Much screeching ensued.

That was probably the last time SA was relevant. Many of the tumblr kids would use shared accounts during the paywall, then one would shit the bed and out the shared account which would get banned. It would always be one of the sharers going aggro and ranting about how unfair the paywall was they just couldn't help themselves.

It always baffles me as to how Tumblr picks the absolute worst, most despicable characters to use as "20GAYteen" props, when you just know that if they had Rick or Jerry spouting how LGBT they are in the actual show these same people would be tearing the creative teams a new asshole for making the LGBT characters abusive monsters.

i kind of like these redesigns. at least with TMNT we never see them designed as humans it leaves open interpretation.
