Congrats, this is the most ugly and disgusting Sailor Moon fanart I've seen in this thread and I registered here on big part because of being tired of fugly Sailor Moon art.
So I decided to reward littletwinlala with quick fanart.

"chibiusa isn't light"

Yes she is. She is a Japanese girl. They have light skin. You can have your redesigns and headcanons all you want (I actually love seeing peoples' interpretations), but don't shit on the creator's designs you claim to love so much and act like you're better than them.

In art classes when you get to the hand drawing lesson the first hand you learn to draw is usaly your own.....so the ones that draw those weirdly boneless hands where so fat their fingers/hands where fat?! Yikes....

All the more reason why I don't take artists seriously when they say not to use a ref. I've seen sooo much shit on sites like DA and Tumblr talking about not using a reference because it's copying and having a "totes original style! UWU" is the most important.

Well guess what? In order to stylize, you need to learn WHAT to stylize. Believe it or not stylization is one of the hardest parts of art. So having some form of reference is even more important. Having a ref of the human body helps because you can see what is supposed to be there. When you first start drawing your mind is not going to get every complex detail of a human body. It's just impossible. You need to learn to break that shit down and figure out how everything works.

Some people learn faster than others, but most of the time, you need a reference. If you have any physical deformities it can completely mess up your form of reference leading to an off-putting drawing. Yeah, it might make sense to you if you are bigger to draw bigger characters, but how much do you want to bet they DON'T know what's under all those layers of fat?

Using a reference helps you in the long run. It is way more important than having an original style will ever be. No one gives a shit if your style looks similar to someone else's. Just move on. It's actually better if you have a more grounded design because for other people it's more noticeable. That's not a bad thing. What is a bad thing is completely foregoing basic anatomy because it's apparently ___phobic. You need to learn this shit. You can't just skip it. And that's my main issue here, these people purposely go out of there way to stylize when they don't know how.

If you check out her art page, they stubbornly believe that Japanese people can be that dark and look like they have skin diseases. The darker-skinned Japanese folks I've seen aren't super dark.

The longer I stare at her art, the more irritated I get at how far from the source material it is. Most of the characters I wouldn't even begin to recognize were it not for the tags. Like, tone down on the pig noses, skin disease "freckles" and stumpy troll bodies. She can draw cute and appealing art if her cookie shit is any indication. Christ.

Having been to Japan, can confirm. Not even Okinawans get quite that dark. A quick Google search could do her wonders.

Usually, when I've seen Tumblr defend the "darker skinned" Japanese headcanons, they mean half black Japanese. And seeing how she seems to overlap those two different people together with a "that's a race issue" and how she focused on the Tyronne comment, I wouldn't be surprise that this is the case here.
I seriously don't understand how they can justify this Japanese erasure and how they fail to see that's fetishizing black people, once again.

I was actually thinking the same thing. We might have a new Rory on our hands. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

in case anyone wants to watch her (she might change it again idk)

Seriously...I hate her style, not only the skin but everything else: Same-face syndrome (with big head), ugly potatoes nose, useless brownwashing (with ugly brown choice colour, srly why all tumblrinas who draws black people always use a mud/poop-brown colour ?), lazy shading... Everything's bad !

I mean, she only have 19 yo, I know that's not always easy to find a style and being used to but come on, have some self-awarness... Seeing all those young peps who waste their talent, that killed me... I'm just super glad that i've never made a tumblr before (never liked that site anyway), my arts could probably be something like this. (:_(

I bet she probably wants to join an Art School or work on animation but... How can you convince someone with that style on a jury ? Even for a stupid kid show that style won't works.

That "about me/before you follow" thing :story::story:

This is definitely a budding lolcow

EDIT:

"I'm reclaiming the characters they belong to me now no one can have them thanks"

No they do not you little twat, they belong to the creator. No one gives a shit how much you find the original plot "problematic".

I'm aware she's probably being facetious but who knows with these types

There's already a character with a darker complexion: Sailor Pluto/Setsuna. Why doesn't she just hyper fixate on that instead? Setsuna is an amazing character. :\

These people get satisfaction out of uglifying and race-bending Caucasian characters. If someone turned a black character into a white one, the artist would be featured in Kotaku attack articles, smeared across tumblr and constantly harassed into suicide.

It happens everywhere. Expressing yourself outside what the current climate wants is social and probably real suicide.

I just wanna know what she thinks the eye bags and copious freckles and other ugly design choices do to make her art better, it’s really not nice to look at in any way since big noses plus big eyes and big mouths all together look ugly as fuck
I remember someone touched on this earlier in the thread. Proportions are a huge part of appealing character design. If every feature is huge and crowding the face then guess what, you've got a fuck ugly character on your hands.
