I found that artist because I was as usual looking for Sailor Moon fanarts and one of their OCs is "Sailor Moon aesthetic fan uwu". A few months ago OC was already terrible:

But recent picture is one of most tumblrish and ugly characters I've ever saw:

For someone going for diversity, all of those characters somehow still feel the same. Maybe it's because all their colour palettes look similar..?

I think it's the posing. In that character lineup, the artist uses the same three poses over and over. A character's body language shows their personality as much as their appearance, so no wonder originality is lost when poses are recycled.

It's really all that matters to them. I once heard someone talk about how great the new Power Rangers movie was because it was diverse, even though the movie itself was mediocre at best. Never mind whether or not something is clever, well-written, visually appealing, or fun. What matters is that the movie fulfills some arbitrary representation quota.

Surprisingly, there wasn't much SJW-esque redesigning going on in the Tumblr tag. Most of the posts in it were "aesthetic" or dude-on-dude porn... I honestly wasn't expecting to see so many cocks in a tag for a show about women.

The artist: "I agree that they needed a redesign". This drawing isn't actually that bad, beyond the fact that op was obviously trying to avoid drawing hands.
