I've seen a couple of 'Meet the Artist's where the artist darkens their skin on purpose. I guess it's for brownie points of some kind, or they just do not know how to pick colors.

Somehow they do not draw light-skinned people with vitiligo (it's often still visible) or people whose skin is almost completly white (like late Michael Jackson). Those would be actually "orginal" if they want to be special so much.
