Which is really interesting when you think about how Death of the Author has been pushed, yet only seems to apply when convenient.

Nowadays, Death of the Author is only invoked by fandoms who require intellectual property as a concept to not exist; all so that they can claim that the work ackchully belongs to the fans - often in retribution for the author refuting their character-shipping fantasies or not sucking tranny dick loudly enough when the gun was pointed to their head. It kinda does make sense for their choices, Konami is trying to once again make a movie based on Silent HIll and that will be an adaptation of SH2, so this is sorta an attempt at brand synergy I guess. add onto that that Shattered Memories was marketed as a remake of SH1 so they might be reluctant remake that again bc of brand confusion

an ideal would be you get to have the saturn rom and ps1 rom and be able to switch between the versions, counting basically as separate games like how they include nes and arcade contra in their collections rather than having a "definitive edition".

I'm watching this lolcow stream the game and, so far, the first thing I like about it is the detail that the lake is seeping into the graveyard.

Update: A few subsequent, minor details I appreciate include Shepherd's Glen having been retconned out of existence by the highway sign for nearby towns at the start, the game not pausing when looking at the map (serving to sustain tension and dread in an obvious way), James marking clues on the map and then crossing them off, the combat apparently not feeling as bad as it looks (indicating that it's a narrative choice), and the side quests prompted by cryptic notes not being obviously incongruous with the rest of the game's progression (then again, I'm only in the pre-apartments section of the lolcow's playthrough). I very much enjoyed the weather popping off in response to James retrieving the apartment key from the drunk's car.

Apartment section update: I like the detail of the reverb in the apartments accentuating James' labored, anxious breathing in response to the radio static alerting him to nearby enemies. Encountering the first already-dead enemy in the game before meeting Pyramid Head was a nice detail, as was Eddie's breath.

My first big gripe with the game is the squealing car tire sound effect which loops in the soundtrack when you're exploring the city streets. If it ends up being the same sound effect used in the In Water ending, Bloober will be hard-confirmed retarded.

He was convinced before he even booted the game. In the post I linked to, he admitted during the pre-stream the he believes Konami not subtitling it "Remake" means that it's a [[[[[[[[secret]]]]]]]] sequel, like the Evangelion films were. For anyone unfamiliar with Patrick Boivin: He's a media-illiterate dwarf who is bad at video games, and overcompensates by pretending to know things he doesn't, then pretends to notice things which affirm his baseless conjecture.

Edit: He just said that the stick not being where he expected it means that the secret sequel is in a time loop beginning immediately after the Maria ending of the original; and that every Lying Figure James beat to death in the original was actually a homeless person.

Out of everything I've seen so far, including a playthrough I'm watching, it's extremely average. James is fine for the most part but Maria sounds like she doesn't give a shit about anything.

Like I said, I can believe that all the 9/10s and 10/10s are genuine this time around because this kind of mediocre slop IS the best that niggercattle these days can hope for. We've reached a point in time where, much like Joe in Idiocracy, things have deteriorated so much that even something so average is head and shoulders above everything else. I wouldn't get worked up over these people, they're the kind that you could take a shit in their mouth and they would think it's a delicacy. Give it a few years and they will be the first in line to eat bug food when it becomes more common and thank the government for their brand new microchips, they have no souls and no opinions of their own. Certainly no taste in video games or horror media if they give something like this a 10/10.

I'm at the "other side" apartments and yeah, I was expecting a complete trainwreck but so far its just OK.
Its not really rocking the boat or trying to pull some crazy shit by radically changing the story or something, probably for the best. I feel like Bloober would had completely dropped the ball if the path hadn't been layed out before them by Team Silent.
I'll give them a gold star because you can tell that at least graphically, they cared. The world its detailed and the textures look good, at least when the game doesn't have a retard panic attack and drops to 10 fps. I'll have to finish the game to give my full opinion but so far is a 6.5/10. Not the absolute dog shit game I was expecting but nothing special too. Kinda makes me wonder why Konami even bothered, they should have remade the first one.

Random FPS drops for no reason. I give it 5.6 out of 10, it reminds me of more clunky Resident evil village. I expected to randomly run into a merchant around the corner.

To be fair, Silent Hill 4 did something similar Outside Room 302, where there were multiple identical signs that "said" something different if you examined them.

They then switched what each sign "said" upon examination when you returned for the final boss.

"inspired by silent hill" is basically a red flag.

What most people actually want when they say they want something inspired by silent hill and hate the "therapist town" trope is something closer to "the mist" by Stephen King. Also about a town enveloped in an otherworldly fog and invaded by horrors from another dimension but without the moralfaggotry. Just pure survival in the present time.

It definitely is getting a lot of praise because everyone expected a total trash fire (That was totally justified because at best Blooper has made a 7/10 game or two with most being mediocre bargain bin shit) but it actually turned out to be a competent remake.
Will be interesting to see how people look back on this after a couple weeks and the excitement for it being a new Silent Hill game has worn off.

This is something i've noticed but what's with gamers and the incessant demand for EVERY GAME BEFORE TWENTY FUCKING SIXTEEN TO BE REMADE?

Because most zoomers are tech inept and don't know how to get an emulator or rom unless it's from the app store. The ones that do figure it out discover that games are harder than the modern counter part (if it be by design, the lack of auto-save, control scheme etc.) and so want everything dumbed down and safe. And these studios know this! Why consider game preservation when they can drop a half-baked remake and call it a day?
