Your premise is not developed enough. If it can be efficient in reducing or eliminating the issue, of course they should.

Now, if the therapy does not work, or aim at prevention but is used to "treat" offenders to "repress their urges", it's obviously retarded.

The way I see it, there are two scenarios where therapy could help:

• The optimistic one is where we can spot and fix it early at the developmental stage. Probably not happening.
• The second is where therapy entails castration of some sort. Something permanent.

Offenders should be put to death. People who should never or cannot be released should not be kept in jail. It's a ridiculously stupid and unrealistic solution. If a dog is rabid, you don't put it in a cage and feed it until it finally dies.

If the punishment for sexually abusing / raping a kid is the death penalty, then the paedophile has an incentive kill the kid as to not be identified.

Death is a better fate for convicted paedophiles since they wouldn't have to endure 2 decades of solitary confinement at best or being beaten up by the other inmates at worst.

I wouldn't trust the sort of governments we have to hand out the death penalty to the most deserving people. We're familiar with the law punishing good people and giving criminals a slap on the wrist.

In terms of paedophiles who have not offended, there are drugs that can lower libido and therapy that can train to improve their self-control.

If the death penalty is on the table, victims of child sexual abuse will feel more hesitant in holding their abusers accountable and reporting them to the law knowing that it would likely result in death for the abuser.

In the same way, paedophiles who haven't offended will not want to get the help they need fearing that they too could run the risk of getting the death penalty.

When I was a little more naive and altruistic I would think up complex schemes where pedophiles could be rehabilitated through Clockwork Orange style aversion therapy and shock therapy and other methods. Pragmatically, to save time, money, and effort for things that actually matter, I now think the only solution to the problem that will actually work is a bullet.
