Should I go to a furry convention this year?

You know I've never been to a furry convention but at this point if there was one nearby I might go so long as I had at least one mentally stalwart person to go with just to say I did it and see what the freaks really get up to firsthand. I think Internet Historian said the same thing at some point.

Although what if you went and you got infected and turned into a furry? Like they grabbed you and forced you into a fursuit like straight out of Five Nights At Freddies?

I don't know, it seems pretty risky. Make sure you and your team develop anti-fursuit techniques and weaponry before you go in case they sense you're an outsider and come for you.

I dunno, I’ve never gone to one despite living right near where one takes place, and I would absolutely refuse to go if they still have any kind of mask or vaccine requirements just based on principle.
I also imagine it’s probably a never ending supply of cringy adults being socially awkward and weird…..but hey, you’ll probably get laid.

Been to one myself recently, it really depends on what you plan to engage with.

If you're a fan of just looking at suits and taking pictures with them that's there in plenty, people are often fairly approachable.
Then there's the main events and panels, see if there are some that sound interesting to you and attend them, they usually range from unnoteworthy to really fun and engaging but i couldn't tell you what'd work for you or not.
Main events differ from con to con but there's usually party/dance stuff as well as a fursuit dance comp which are surprisingly fun to watch, i'm amazed that some of these people can bust moves with a literal carpet wrapped around them and do it well all at once.
Then there's the usual dealer's den where you can get merch and what have you, sometimes there's a night market where degenerates get their fix on weird toys they like to stick up their rectum (oh and pornography i guess).
And finally you have the various room parties which cons are infamous for, ranging from binge drinking to orgies.

All in all it's a considerable pallet of activities you can engage with, including a full schedule of SFW wholesome fun as i've managed to experience for myself when i attended one.
Your mileage may differ depending on how interested you actually are in this sort of stuff but if not the whole duration a day ticket might serve as a good prod at the con experience.
I'd say yes try it, you might be pleasantly surprised.
(just mind the general themes of alphabet letter soup, it can be a little overbearing at times)

Never actually been a guest, but I've assisted with facility set up. If you like electronic music, drinking, and looking at what others have come up with it's a fine time.

I'd go but like another has mentioned, I would need someone to help shoulder that mental journey.
