That's half the battle right there. Regional supranational organizations might be the way of the future for any nation that wants to compete, the US and Mexico actually forming a healthy relationship that results in Mexico's self-sustained prosperity will do a lot to nullify the world's usual cries of heavy-handed american imperialism.

This has generally been my thought with regards to the issue of central America. Particularly the borderline failed states in Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatamala. The Cartels and the Gangs are more powerful then the governments of these countries and it just feeds a vicious cycle of dysfunction and migration. Some sort of intervention in these countries may be inevitable the longer this goes on.

i could see an american empire emerge where pacific/SEA nations become US protectorates or vassal states because they prefer american promises of safety to the threat of chinese conquest.

Much of the Pacific is already directly owned by American or under some sort of protection scheme. It's very hands off though and it is something China has been taking advantage of lately with influence efforts in places like Vanuatu and even Australia. An expansion of more direct control in these areas may be inevitable if China escalates the influence peddling to pushing for basing rights

I'm really curious where that's going to go. We have clear defense treaties with Taiwan but honestly who doesn't expect the US to cuck out if China decides to flex?

As long as the US has Philippine, Japanese and Korean basing rights I don't think the strategic benefit of Taiwanese forward operating bases would outweigh risking an economic or real war over, should China decide to seriously press the issue.

That said, Canada has shown consistently that they are incapable of getting their shit together, so I'm all for having American tanks and infantry roll into Cancuckistan. Maybe Mexico too.

Taiwan is more useful as a thorn in Chinas side. Its also our pocket ace in the unlikely but still possible scenario of a war with China, in that it is potential successor state to the Chinese Peoples Republic. In grand strategy terms, Taiwan is essentially a deposed monarch or bastard heir living with a rival king. They have no immediate use, and are largely a waste of space and resources, but since they have a viable claim to something super important, its worth it to keep them around.

Or just drone strike their government off the face of the Earth and take their land by storm. That sounds like it'd work better than collaborating with a known corrupt government like Mexico's.

Mexico isn't that terrible compared to the world stage, and things have to improve at some point.
