SHMUPs and Bullet Hells

Angel at Dusk - I just started playing this but it's the first modern bullet hell to strike a chord with me. Bio horror themed with no moe girls and just feels really fast-paced and aggressive. Instead of weaving your guy through slow-moving bullets, you wipe them out with a giant bullet-erasing death ray. Very beginner-friendly too, even has a "I have never played a shmup ever" type of tutorial.

I’ll keep that in mind for when I trawl steam over the holidays. Your description makes me think of RSG’s sword. Been looking into this shit and beat em ups as something to use with my arcade sticks. God knows my main fighting game isn’t likely to improve for a while.

What games would you recommend to get into the genre, specifically on PC or Switch? The Gradius collection that just came out seems like it might be a good start.

There are a number of shmups with some kind of bullet-cancelling doodad, but spraying them out of the way with a huge laser or whatever is not one I've seen before.

I think that's one where the Switch (and maybe Steam) port is underfeatured and laggy, so it's especially important to just steal it.

Been playing some twin-stick shooters. Picked up Sektori - Shit's crazy hard but im having a blast. Also in the process of playing Devil Blade Reboot - One of the bosses says "may God have mercy on your soul" which gave shivers down my spine. Blue Revolver is for pedophiles, but it seems pretty fun as well. Touhou 6 is designed for pedophiles and is kinda okay, so its passable. Bullet Heaven 2 is a child's video game made for children, but its inspired by Touhou, a pedophile game, so it gets a 2/5 out of me.

All in all, shmups are my favorite genre.

Bought Batsugun on GOG. Fun experience and an amazing port. Lots of options, so you can make it baby easy or play the arcade mode which is tough. Good time.

I reccomend the Orange_Juice schmups, theyre very beginner friendly and have some neat gimmicks. 100% orange juice is very popular but I feel like nobody is aware of the games those characters are from.
