I'm not crazy about this. Not because of any issues relating to gender, but because it makes me uncomfortable that we still have to register for the draft in 2016 (even though no one has actually been drafted since the 1970s). What do you guys think?

IIRC the pay gap stuff was debunked.

Not really. Now you can argue the pay gap is because of specific choices of career that lead into less well paying jobs and even, perhaps, that it isn't unfair that these careers are paid less, but the pay gap exists. The only disagreement is as to why it exists and whether it's actually balanced out somehow by other advantages that women who take these careers gain.

There is plenty of successful litigation when women prove in court that they were paid less than their male counterparts for doing exactly the same thing.

The numbers do indicate that, too. @*Asterisk* 's articles were very informative. As for negotiation, I would argue women are much worse than men.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. Of the lawyers I've known, there are maybe a half dozen I'd be terrified to face in court and they're all women.

You can debunk the wage gap myth with a bit of simple common sense. If you could pay a woman 70 cents on the dollar and get exactly the same product as a man, then there would be either very few men in the workforce, or else a huge downward pressure on male wages until they hit parity.

How dare you apply logic and common sense to feminism! Those things are racist! (Kidding)

Sorry. My white cis male privilege got all over the place

To be more precise, feminists are retarded. They would think that a mythical patriarchy would keep companies from hiring women even if it was economical for them to do so.

It is a testament to their delusions that they think this boogeyman organisation could stop corporate greed itself.

And shit like that takes time to happen. As in decades. As long as you can still get away with it, you're going to take advantage of wage disparity to increase profits.

It's not like market forces just instantly force their inevitable results. It takes time.

Isn't a lot of the pay gap to do with more women doing part time instead of full time work? (Often due to working around their kids)

So technically they're doing the same job but pay structures work differently.

Market forces work pretty quickly, it a company could exploit an advantage like that it would jump on it as fast as they could. Look how fast companies exploit poor negotiators(both male and female) to pay them less - which is what all the specific examples of women suing because they were paid less turn out to be. If they could turf half their workforce and replace them with women it would happen as fast as humanly possible.

The wage gap is a statistical manipulation that serves a political purpose and it doesn't stand up to even cursory scruitiny.

Edit: if I'm picking you up right you're arguing that companies will exploit every advantage and in doing so, keep women down, but they won't do the single most obvious and easiest (and legal) thing and instantly slash 30% off their wage bill.
Makes no sense.

This itself is an issue worth addressing. A decent federal family and sick leave system would improve the lives of everyone now that the bountiful 50s days are nowhere close to our near future.

Women don't ask for raises as much.
That's their own fault then. You want something, go out and get it.
I think custody issues are pretty far up on the gender inequality list. Although as recent events have shown, rape doesn't seem to be taken all that seriously still.
If they're so far up on the scale, then there shouldn't be any problem with women wanting to help correct this minor, and obviously sexist, notion that only men should be drafted.

Yes I have no problem with this. I don't know who does except far right wingers and maybe sjws.

Perhaps companies are currently employing all the women they can get their hands on right now.

I think that the wage gap has been disproven mostly because when you actually investigate the numbers, women get paid very close to what men get paid for the same work. That is, when you consider education, job title, things like that, women get paid something like 92-97 cents per dollar that men get paid.

In response, you could say that perhaps sexism causes women to choose lower paying professions. But that's a much harder case to make than women are outright being paid less because of sexism.

(As people noted, some other things to consider are pregnancy and women not negotiating as aggressively as men for raises.)

If women don't want to do the work offered, then there's no pay gap. They're deliberately choosing to be paid less in lesser jobs.
And considering women are more than 50% of the population I'm not buying that theres a shortage of them in the workforce, unless they're choosing to stay at home..

I don't have the source for this but on Last Week Tonight (which is pretty SJWy so take that as you will) they cited some study where they presented employers with identical resumes but some had male names and some had female names. The female resumes got fewer offers/were offered less money.
I'm willing to believe there is some small inherent bias, but that it probably doesn't account for much of a gap. I've always heard that women don't negotiate as much (sometimes ever) so I make a point to negotiate aggressively. I don't have anything to compare that to though because no one is doing the same job I am.

I think this is an issue where we can safely discount all sjwy sources. No offense intended at you.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings on LWT. On one hand, some segments they do a hell of a lot of fact-checking, especially on obscure issues. On the other hand, they featured Brianna Wu in a segment.

Although as recent events have shown, rape doesn't seem to be taken all that seriously still.

Rape isn't taken seriously at all. Although, contrary to the standard SJW narrative, it isn't necessarily men approving of rape so much as having given up on ever stopping it. It's just assumed there's gonna be men out there who do that and for that reason, women will have to change their behaviors. Everyone will talk up and down about how bad rape is, but nobody really seems to have the ambition to severely curtail or eliminate it. Its perceived permanence and effort to eradicate put it low on everyone's priority list when it should be among our top ten, as there are few things more important than the safety and self-determination of one's body.

Call me cynical, but I also think that is partly because it gives the sjw feminism so much ammo, its like their golden goose. So they got no reason to stop it because it gives them power. We all know feminism is about power play and politics and nothing else any more.

I wouldn't say it's not taken seriously so much as enforcement is never going to be perfect. We definitely take murder seriously, and about a third of murders go unsolved.
