My Retro Life made a hot take that Crazy Taxi "died" because of GTA III having a taxi driver side mission.

That's definitely a leap of faith if I've heard one. Crazy Taxi was definitely innovative as an arcade title since you could play longer based on your skill of its objective.

What did the sequels do differently to shake up the first foundation? I think 2 added a hop button, 3: High Roller was supposed to have Xbox Live or day/night cycles. I think it just had new locales.

Basically, Crazy Taxi "died" because Sega couldn't innovate it further.
