If you're looking at creating you should study filk music which is what you're describing. It's a microgenre that's persisted since the sixties.

Had a mate stream some X4 foundations and had it on in the background as he was trucking in space. He put this on and it was my gateway to Filk. There are some real bangers on this album. Most of the albums I have gotten off of archive.org were made by Leslie Fish since the 70s. She's still putting out songs.
