Just make Election Day a national holiday. It certainly has more claim to being a day sacred to the nation than that day named after that douchebag Columbus.

It's no wonder the country is so fucked. The current Tuesday arrangement favors Quaker farmers, the old that will be dead shortly and the unemployed that can't bother to get off the couch to vote. Those that are employed and actually pay taxes largely don't feel like spending three hours in line to cast a vote that they feel produces no result.

They don't just feel it, it's actually true. I know of at least one political science professor who doesn't bother to vote because of a utilitarian belief that it makes literally no difference in her personal life and that the time spent doing it is wasted.
