Crime Sao Paulo School Shooting Kills 1 Student

On Monday morning (23), a 16-year-old teenager shot and killed a fellow student and injured two others at Sapopemba State School in Jardim Sapopemba (eastern São Paulo). The shooter, a first-year high school student at the school, entered the premises around 7:30 AM, fired multiple shots, and was apprehended by the Military Police after the incident. A security camera recorded the moment when the shooter entered a classroom full of students and opened fire. There was chaos, and students fled the room in the midst of a commotion.

The victim, 17-year-old Giovanna Bezerra, was shot in the head. The two injured students were rescued and taken to the emergency room at Sapopemba Hospital – one of them has already been discharged. A third student, who was injured while fleeing, was also treated and released. The motives behind the attack are still under investigation. According to attorney Antonio Edio, who represents the shooter, the teenager claims he took this action in an attempt to address the bullying and homophobia he was experiencing.

Edio stated that the attacks escalated when the teenager started wearing feminine clothing. In April, he said, the shooter's mother filed a police report regarding assaults suffered at another school. "The mother filed a police report about the homophobia he was experiencing. She informed the school, but the only advice the school gave her was to transfer [her son] to another school," said the lawyer.

I've had a gun pulled on me and been robbed before and I wasn't too much older than these kids when it happened so I do have experience to speak from. It really is the kind of thing you either have to experience first hand at least once or be conditioned prior to react and have the "fight" response for most, unfamiliar fear tends to drive you to freeze up or flee. It's really easy to say in hindsight "they could of done something", but chances are none of them could even form a coherent thought while it was happening, and being so young definitely didn't help.

I get that. I've seen it firsthand (Used to work as an armed security guard). But the "freezing up" lasts a couple of seconds from what I've seen, even with innocent parties around. Hell, I froze up once when seeing two "men of color" jump the fence and one carrying a gun on hand. Yet again, this lasted 2-3 seconds.
There's definitely a lot of people that would freeze up for longer, I'm not making myself out to be an edge case. It just seems strange to me, that's all.

Maricas and paneleiro are very common in my area, but I've also never heard larila, just seen it in a dictionary.

There's also qualira, which was originally used on the North and Northeastern regions of the country. Boiola is a somewhat softer word with the same meaning, but I've seen it being used seriously before. Viado and bicha are rarely used seriously nowadays though- even gay people call themselves that. I don't think it works that much as a derogatory term.

Oh, there's also traveco. It simply means "tranny", but it has a very different connotation when compared to, let's say, travesti, which can be used without the intent to offend someone.
