"The new policies are: Inmates may now ask for a gender-specific deputy to do a visual body search - the first such jail to allow this in the nation; and they can express a preference where they would like to be housed so that their safety while showering and overall privacy can be better assured, Sheriff Vicki Hennessy said. In addition, effective immediately, inmates now can fill out a "statement of preference" form identifying their gender and how they want to be addressed in jail."


This is a very public test of the argument that no one would falsely claim to be trans.

If this is just confined to county jails in San Francisco and doesn't gain any traction, it'll be nothing more but an embarassing fuckup on San Francisco's part that would be ended by one or two good lawsuits from the right people or the inevitable drastic rise in costs to maintain the jails. Mainly because you don't have the levels of violence and strict social hierarchies in county jails that you have in actual prisons and as others have said before, nobody wants to catch a murder rap for some beef in the county lockup.

But if for some reason California outdoes itself on SJW idiocy and decides to implement this policy on the state level and allow inmates to pick their own prisons based on their self-proclaimed gender identity, then it will be a colossal disaster for everyone involved. And I do mean everyone, from citizens to prisoners to staff.

Call me old fashioned, but you're in jail specifically because you've broken the law. Something tells me society shouldn't be bothered to fucking care about your pronouns or preferred facility. If you want people to give a shit about your "gender identity", be a better citizen.

It won't change jack shit, male inmates would still choose to rape a cis male over a fugly FtM abomination any day. And they can't even be sued for muh tranz since they're already in jail.

Literally no FTM prisoners have asked to go to men's jail. In England some terfs asked for statistics about the transfers for trans people and they were 100 percent to female prisons.
