There have been more Higurashi series remakes since Ciconia came out than planned episodes to Ciconia.

The only good news is DEEN is back at the helm so there's no more fucking chipmunk faces, but I doubt Chiaki Kon will be returning to the director's seat. But anyhoo, just stop, Ryukishi. You did enough damage to this series that unless you're only sticking to VN/PS exclusive routes, no one trusts you anymore.

But with that said...

https://youtube.com/watch?v=a3_PPdjD6mgLook, I'm pretty happy with the stage adaptation of umineko.
They did an amazing job all things considered, but is it really too much to ask for a proper anime adaptation?
Ah, I don't want to spoil your fun, but apparently the director, who is also the husband of Natsuki's actress, had an affair, and that could jeopardize it, or so I've heard.

Edit: Less ESL...

With this announcement, I just had to check. Shortly after it finished, Sotsu was at this MAL score and total count of members acknowledging its existence.

Gou for reference at the same time:

Nearly five years (holy shit) later, this is where the series as a whole stands:

It's just not popular, at all. For a flavor-of-the-month seasonal anime, this is really slow traction for a series that is more readily available than the original.

This isn't to say the original has actually fared any better, however. October 2021:

Does this mean Higurashi's popularity has dropped? Of course not, the sound novel is much more accessible than ever before, and it's more likely newcomers have decided they'd rather play it than go looking for a 20-year-old anime adaptation. Maybe even look up the manga for good measure.

The new anime is just not going to bring in the numbers here in the West unless word-of-mouth is more positive than Shitsugou's. But even so, sequel series typically have a drop-off in viewership. It may out-perform Sotsu in numbers, but I sincerely doubt it'll break Gou's after five years even if it's actually a good watch.

I don't see an influx in newcomers over this without it blowing expectations out of the water. And R07's well of good graces is drying up.

I don't understand, is Ryukishi bankrupt on both money and ideas? Why is he so fixated with Higurashi? One would think that after the dumpster fire that GouSotsu was he'd at least try to move on to Umineko, especially with all the connections he tried to establish and all that "witch nonsense", but no, it's Higurashi again.

What more is there to explore? A connection with Silent Hill f? Or perhaps one with PUBG? Keiichi becoming trans?

Ah shit. Here we go again.

Will Rena be our Oyashiro-scorned Looper that decides to murder Keiichi in every timeline/any perceived slight by a Hanyuu clone made by Eua who got bored again? Or is this one of those console-only arcs that were never adapted into animation/manga? I seriously don't know what is left for Ryukishi to fuck with in the Higurashi universe. Maybe people will get Ciconia "content" (vague references) in this one

I like icebergs, so there's a Higurashi iceberg that had a recent video made of it on MrHunteru's channel. As much as I appreciate bringing in the WTC community to help narrate it because yeah, it's long so I get it, half of the guests are literally unlistenable due to being troons, or being a literal mushmouth. I'm linking to it anyway because Hunteru actually expands on the first entry, Kenta-kun, with a neat baseball backstory that happened in '80s Japan that likely was an inspiration for Higurashi.

Anyhoo I'll have the chart here if anyone's interested in browsing it.

EDIT: What the fuck, what do you mean Mion and Shion are 14? I thought they were 17??

He probably thinks Umineko is less milkable than Higurashi simply because it was less successful. Higurashi's anime was so successful that it got several OVAs and a sequel, while Umineko's anime was such a tremendous flop that it never got a second season. Also, I heard he doesn't do it because Umineko's ending wasn't well received back in 2010, especially by the Japenis, but I don't understand why this should still be relevant 16 years later.

Complement: I don't understand why he can't just continue Ciconia. His logic is just so stupid... He wouldn't benefit from war. On the contrary, it could serve as a contribution to promoting peace.
