Rowling Derangement Syndrome - "TERF/Woke Author Bad!!1"

The most annoying part of that is that trannies were the most tolerated by the Nazis, as said Nazis still recognized the version of gender change certification that they had then.

Without bothering to dig deeper into this, I would gather that the ”trannies” that actually were persecuted and executed were guilty of other offenses such as sex criminality or political opposition.

The German government put a bunch of the pink triangle victims in prison after the war, partly because homosexuality was illegal, but mostly cause the pink triangle was slapped on sex criminals like pedophiles and serial rapists.
The Nazis considered homosexual relations to be in the same category.
Hitler had a gay man, Ernst Röhm, as the leader of the SA at one point. He did later kill him, but I imagine the Third Reich thought of HSTSes in a similar way as modern-day Muslim countries think of them. They probably preferred homosexuals that transitioned and tried to assimilate into the "trad" lifestyle, the ones like Blaire White who LARP as "straight women". But they (rightfully) weren't very friendly to the kinds that wanted to masturbate publicly or rape people. So it sounds like less of a "trans genocide" and more of a Total Degenerate Rapist Death.

She denied the Nazis targeted trannies during the Holocaust.

Not even that, she said they were not the first/primary victims of shit like book burnings. Since troons refined the 2013-2023 era hyperbolic demonisation/vilification spiral to an art form they were able to spin this to her personally gassing known genderfluid palestinian of color anne frank to death with her black mold induced terf BRAAAAAAPs and have this repeated by mainstream media within a week.

My favorite part of that was that she had cited her sources when making those tweets. They included actual German Holocaust scholars, which is possibly about as official as it can get. Still wasn’t enough. They just want to defame her that badly.

Interesting observation I’ve had: actual gays have used the pink triangle less often in the past decade. Nowadays I mostly see trannies (especially pooners) wearing them

Incidentally gentlemen, I have acquired quite the amusing reddit screeching thread about literal anal rapist JK Rowling

They have to project onto Rowling and depict her as this "sad, lonely, mentally-deranged hateful sex offender" because if they believe she's that, then they clearly can't be that themselves, right?

>"Rowling is a sex offender"
Most trannies are sex offenders. If trannies didn't dress indecently, then they wouldn't have to worry about the public seeing their genitals. That's not "upskirting". Clothes made for teenage girls are not made to fit grown adult men's bodies.

>"Rowling is a sad, lonely old woman"
Most trannies are sad and lonely because they are insufferable and revolting. Rowling is a beloved children's author with many friends (in real-life, not just on Discord).

>"Rowling is mentally-deranged and senile"
Transgenderism itself is a sign of mental instability. Just look at all the psychological comorbidities that trannies themselves advertise in their bios.

>"Rowling is a hateful bigot who hates everyone and wants mass genocide"
Trannies are extremely hateful toward anyone that doesn't share all of their hyperspecific Reddit viewpoints. And trannies are often calling for death and violence against their political opponents.

It's all projection.

It's just like how lolipedos deflect by calling anyone who's anti-lolicon "THE REAL PEDOPHILES".

Última edición:
this screeching about jk rowling supposedly "committing a sex crime" by "upskirting a woman" is funny when you realize
1. she didn't even take the photo
2. his balls were out in the open for anyone to see
she didn't take a picture of him non-consensually, he knew people were going to see

Right? The reframing of it as an upskirt photo, when it's clearly the guy flashing an audience, is really something to behold.
They also say "upskirting A WOMAN", so the idea in normal people's heads, from hearing that, is that she was taking a picture of a real woman's ass/vagina. They don't specify that the "woman" is a man with a voyeurism fetish.

The baseless accusations continue
1784412351911.png

At what point did posting a screenshot become sexual assault? Words have meaning. She didn't even take the damn picture.

It is thus hardly surprising that posting a publicly available unflattering photo of an unflattering troon was swiftly declared "upskirting" and thus proof rowling is a sex offender, and as such she will probably be officially a rapist by noon today, with her personally raping this troon by sundown.
They're trying everything they possibly can to make JK look like a horrible person. They say she denied the Holocaust, they say she was best friends with Epstein, they say that she's funding groups that literally go out and hunt trans people. Which I don't even know how you can trick yourself into beliveing that.

Which I don't even know how you can trick yourself into beliveing that.
I think "trans women are women" is basically a silver bullet into your own brain. Once you've unlearned something you learned around the same time as "food goes in the mouth, not the nose" you lose your grip on reality entirely. These people topple into a fantasy world.

They called her a transphobe, it didn't work.
They called her a holocaust-denying antisemite, it didn't work.
They called her a racist, it didn't work.
They called her a nazi, it didn't work.
They called her a homophobe, it didn't work.
They called her a misogynist, it didn't work.
They called her an ableist, it didn't work.
They called her an islamophobe, it didn't work.
They called her a hag living in a moldy castly, it didn't work.
They called her a Zionist, it didn't work.
They called her an Epstein associate, it didn't work.
Now they're calling her a sex offender. That won't work either.

They're running out of things they can accuse her of at this point. Have they accused her of being friends with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor yet? After all, he visited the HBO Harry Potter set while they were filming in Windsor Great Park.

When did she ever say anything about the Holocaust? I know the "sex offender" lie is because she took a picture of a troon, and the "Epstein associate" lie is because Epstein bought a ticket to see the HP play (without ever meeting Rowling). But where does the "Holocaust denier" claim come from?
As others said, she was thoroughly mocking them when they claimed troons were the #1 Nazi victims.
Those tweets were probably posted before but I just found them in my screenshot folder and they're still funny.

Have they accused her of being friends with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor yet?
Of course!

And the sex offender stuff isn't even new. I lose track of what happened when but a few years ago she did sent a legal letter to a troon or TRA who was tweeting that she wasn't safe to have around children and it apologised. Anyone remember who that one was?

Do you consider a fan of Harry Potter books to be an unsafe person

I ran across this post on FB. While JK Rowlings is an utterly vile person, they went as far as to say that being a fan of the book series made you an unsafe person. Thank you for any replies.
"If you still support/fund J.K. Rowling/Harry Potter you are harming Trans people… Personally, for me, it’s a red flag whenever I see it (that you’re not a safe person), b/c I assume it means you aren’t bothered by her harmful rhetoric and actions."
u/Linneroy
Still being a fan of that franchise despite knowing the stance of the author and the harm she is actively doing would at the very least raise yellow to red-ish flags, yes. Fan implies current support.

Fan of harry potter, not fan of jk Rowling. Not everyone is big into politics or involved, my mom likes harry potter and she is an absolute sweetheart regarding trans prople, she has no idea what's going on with UK politics and doesn't follow rowling in any way.
"you're just pushing people away of the thing you're trying to support"
If being told that financially and publicly supporting a bigot who spends millions to kill as many trans people as possible is kinda fucked up and makes you inherently a red flag is enough to make you anti trans, you were never an ally to begin with.

That has literally nothing to do with what I said though. Also we both know it's more nuanced than that, and as I already explain, she doesn't buy merch or content she is just a fan. I don't understand how this is hard to process. My mom is a Spanish woman that doesn't really use the internet all that much, and doesn't understand English at all. You really think she knows a single thing about jk Rowling? If you come at her with insults and hate right away she's just going to not want to hear your opinion or know what you have to say. If you want people to think you're the good guy then be the good guy not the hateful one.

The hateful one is the one who openly supports someone who spends more money than you will ever see in your entire life on killing trans people, not the one who calls you unsafe for supporting it.
"If you come at her with insults and hate right away"
Nobody is saying they would come at her with insults and hate, quite literally everyone here has simply said they would consider her an unsafe person. I thought you wanted to talk with nuance? Do you not have the capability to understand there is a difference between "this person is unsafe" and "I'm going to insult and attack this person?"
Ignorance is not an excuse in this climate. Trans people don't get the privilege of ignorance, nor do they get the privilege of just "assuming" people who support those that openly support GENOCIDE are safe people.
If you don't like the idea of people thinking you're unsafe, you can try educating yourself. Otherwise, people will just think you're unsafe, and that's fine! Being perceived as unsafe doesn't inherently make you a bad person, but if you don't like it the onus is on YOU to change and educate yourself.

Except my mom doesn't "openly support" jk Rowling. I don't think you understand what the language and age barrier means, and older woman who doesn't speak the language and doesn't use the internet isn't involved in anything. She can't be aware of every single opinion from every single creator of every thing she likes/follows, she just likes some things and that's about it. You underestimate your level of involvement. And again, nobody is getting any money here, at best we buy her bootleg stuff. I don't understand the anger. She is actively positive towards trans people, not even neutral, as said my best friend and one of my sisters best friends are trans and she doesn't have a single issue and actively welcomes them home and respects their identity. To label her as unsafe because she likes a children's book series is downright idiotic I'm sorry. If you were aware of the politics of every single thing that you see or use you'd quickly realise that a lot of the people that work on them have very radical opinions, but you just can't enjoy things that way. And as said, WE her family make sure she doesn't spend on that, so I don't see the problem. Random online people are the problem.

"She can't be aware of every single opinion from every single creator of every thing she likes/follows, she just likes some things and that's about it"
Sure, then she is going to be perceived as unsafe until proven otherwise. I don't know why you're so upset by that fact, but it's a little pathetic. For the 500 billionth time, JKR is FUNDING A GENOCIDE. I think it's quite reasonable to feel unsafe around people who like her franchise.
It's not even safe at a baseline to assume ANY cis person is an ally until proven otherwise, because most are subtly or straight up openly transphobic. Let alone someone interested in a franchise created by someone that directly funds genocide.
Your privilege is showing. Hard.
"To label her as unsafe because she likes a children's book series is downright idiotic I'm sorry"
Cis people deciding unilaterally what trans people are "allowed" to be afraid of will never get old. We are in the midst of a genocide, and JKR is actively funding it. I think it's quite reasonable to feel unsafe around people who support her work, even if the reason is ignorance. We don't know your mother. If all I knew about someone is that they liked Harry Potter, then yeah, I'm going to feel unsafe around them until given reason to think otherwise! Because, for the trillionth time, the author is FUNDING GENOCIDE AGAINST ME. There is no way for me to tell what your mother or anyone like her is like. There is no way to know if she's just ignorant, there is no way to know if she's openly bigoted, there's no way to know if shes an "ally" who just simply doesn't think funding genocide is a dealbreaker, etc. etc. That's what the entire post is about.
Prove your safety to me if you don't want to be perceived as unsafe. Sounds like your mother does that just fine. You spoke so much about "nuance" and how trans people are the ones lacking nuance in this discussion, but truly you've shown repeatedly that you have quite literally 0 capacity to understand nuance.
Perception isn't some permanent unchanging thing that stays the same from the microsecond you meet someone. If I initially perceive someone as unsafe (because, I repeat, enjoying a franchise created by someone who funds my GENOCIDE) that does not mean they will be perceived that way for the rest of time. It is on them to prove themselves to be safe.
The original post is about how it's a red flag if someone still supports/funds JKR/HP. It is. To be frank, I don't give a singular fuck if a random cis person thinks thats "idiotic"
She's funding trans genocide. She is obsessed with killing and harming as many trans people as possible. It is not "idiotic" to think at a baseline anyone who chooses to associate with her or her work is unsafe, ignorance or not.
The comment you replied to even CLARIFIED "despite knowing the stance of the author and the harm she is actively doing"
Can you tell me how that relates to your mother? Like even remotely? Let us know.

I never called anyone an idiot, I said being afraid of someone for liking a book is idiotic, and I also never generalized trans people, I am talking to you and about you. I never said that trans people lack nuance, I said you do, and you prove it by saying "JKR/HP" when those are very different things, not the same at all. Stop trying to make me out to be a villain for defending my mother liking a children's book for fucks sake what a pathetically stupid discussion. I live in Spain, one of the best countries to be a trans person, trans people are supported by every political party here, even the right wing, and we have no issues aside from a vocal minority of bigots, fortunately and happily for us. I also never said I'm a cis person, I just don't like to label myself, nor am I telling you what to think, nor are you forced to reply to me or read me. Read my post again if you want my opinion, honestly. I can't be any more clear at this point.

"I never called anyone an idiot"
Right. You only said that the majority of trans people in this thread were idiotic for not feeling safe around people in support of a franchise authored by someone who funds genocide.
"you prove it by saying "JKR/HP" when those are very different things, not the same at all"
In the context of this discussion they are functionally the same thing. You'd know what I mean by that if you read anything I said.
"Stop trying to make me out to be a villain for defending my mother"
Defending your mother from what? She isn't being attacked. There is nothing to defend. Literally all that has happened is I explained it's not unreasonable for people to feel unsafe at a baseline around someone who supports a franchise authored by someone who wants trans people exterminated, and that the onus is on the person in question to prove their safety, and not on the trans person to change their boundaries.
I even said your mother (from what you've told me) seemingly does a fine job of doing exactly that. There is nothing to defend her from. I have clarified so many times that being perceived as unsafe does not make you a bad person, and that it is not a permanent feeling. I have simply said that it is on her to prove that she is safe, which, like I have already said, she seems to do just fine.
All I have said is that she will be perceived as unsafe until proven otherwise.
For someone who wants to claim I lack nuance, you don't seem to understand that random people don't know your mother like you do. If you show support or enjoyment for a franchise authored by someone that wants me dead, I am going to feel unsafe around you until I have reason to believe you're just ignorant or have evidence that you only enjoy the franchise and actively avoid anything connected to financially supporting the author.
A good chunk of cis people justify their continued direct financial support of the franchise with transphobic microaggressions or with "seperate the art from the currently alive and actively funding genocide artist!" garbage.
Your mother, for all I know with just the context of "likes Harry Potter" could be one of those people. You've clarified she both isn't, and doesn't directly fund JKR in the first place, but without your added context I wouldn't know that.
It isn't idiotic or irrational to feel unsafe around people that COULD fall into that group until proven otherwise, it's called being safe, whether you like it or not.
"live in Spain, one of the best countries to be a trans person, trans people are supported by every political party here, even the right wing, and we have no issues aside from a vocal minority of bigots, fortunately and happily for us."
Cool! I will repeat what I said in my previous reply then. "Your privilege is showing. Hard."
I don't get to have that privilege. I live in a horrifically bad place to be trans. I don't get to just assume at a baseline that someone who is a fan of a franchise authored by a holocaust denier is safe to be around. They have to prove that to me.

u/Astartia
Worse than unsafe.
They have bad taste, and we should not normalize shitty writing.

u/AnastasiaSpace
i will not respect you if you support jk rowling in any way (buying media, talking about media, otherwise engaging in communities about the media)

u/Lucky_Veruca
No, because most cis people do not understand the gravity of what JK Rowling does. Some of them likely do not care either, they’ll rationalize it by saying “oh well I already own the books/movies” or “well I don’t support transphobia so it’s okay” and trying to advise them further will just make them feel alienated, if not attacked.
I’ve adopted a “shut up until it’s relevant” approach when it comes to people consuming content from unfortunate people

I think any cis person who doesn't understand the gravity of what JK Rowling does is at best not the kind of ally I need them to be. Being complicit to that degree does make them at least a little unsafe, because I can't trust them not to make decisions that will harm my community. Those are the kinds of people who fall for dogwhistles, vote for transphobes because they didn't care enough to research it, and actively put even more money into the pockets of people fund anti-trans legislation... Like JK Rowling.
We need our allies to be more politically conscious and aware, especially right now, when our rights are under constant attack everywhere. JK Rowling's transphobia is pretty common knowledge at this point. Anyone who engages in meaningful allyship should know about it.

u/Frame_of_Mind20
Most of my HP loving cis peers say "separate the art from the artist." I have trust issues as a result.

"Death of the artist," doesn't work if the artist is still alive and actively profiting.

"Death of the author" is also a literary analysis tool, not about the actual death of the author.
It'd be nice if she would, though...

u/Sheepocalypse
If anyone is still a fan of JK's work in the big 2026, yes they're probably an unsafe person. And yes that extends to fandom, fanart, fanfic as well; it's effectively free advertising and we shouldn't give free advertising to bigots. JK and her works would ideally languish in obscurity, forgotten.

u/translenin1917
she wants to eliminate trans people. that's not an exaggeration.

u/meltyandbuttery
At best, I consider anyone who is an HP fan to be so ignorant on current events that they aren’t someone I want to know because they aren’t politically active and therefore complicit.

But anyone that knows anything about JKR and is still a fan I think is unsafe. It tells me trans people are not real enough to them for them to give a rat’s ass.

u/paradigm3
If they don't give her money and take care to separate the work from the author in their mind, it's fine. Tons of art in the past was created by horrible, horrible people. You can enjoy the art without celebrating the person. Harry Potter was so many people's childhoods, was the first thing to ignite so many people's imagination. Rowling isn't worth the air she breathes, but that doesn't mean we should take that away from them. It just means we have to enjoy art while shitting on the person at the same time.

People have written far too much Harry/Draco smut for all Harry Potter fans to be transphobes.

r/asktransgender by u/keleatsrocks
The books are full of homophobia, racism, misogyny, xenophobia, antisemitism, and, yes, transphobia. If you haven’t noticed and unpacked that I can be pretty sure you haven’t noticed and unpacked those tendencies in yourself, and that’s not the kind of person I want to be hanging out with.

Sorry but where's the homophobia in the books? And the majority of people were children when they read it or only watched the movies. I personally did not notice any of this when reading the books and I don't consider myself to be an unpacked homophobe or antisemite.

Yeah, I have seen this trend where, once people find out a creator is a bigot, they start to see everything about their work through that lens, even when it requires a complete misunderstanding of it. A lot of the discourse now about HP is just reaching IMO. It is actually possible to recognize JK Rowling is an anti-trans bigot without going out of your way to distort the books. I say all this not as some big HP fan but as someone who majored in English and is just annoyed by willful misinterpretation.
The antisemitism is supposedly the goblins. As a Jewish person, I find this to be a massive reach. Goblins are a common fixture of the fantasy genre. For some reason, recently people have decided they are an antisemitic stereotype. I personally find it more offensive to insist Goblins represent us than to include them in a story. If HP is antisemitic for that, then so is every other fantasy series or story that includes goblins.
Idk what they might be referring to in regards to homophobia. Dumbledore being implied as gay was a baby step in representation at a time when it was almost nonexistent, particularly in children's literature. Some people picked up on it, others didn't. People were annoyed when JK tried to take credit for it by announcing he was gay online, especially since it isn't represented in the Fanrastic Beasts movies, a criticism I agree with. Not seeing how that qualifies the books as being homophobic, though.

Jk Rowling declared that in her books, being a werewolf is a metaphor for having aids. I think this is fine, it’s a serviceable enough metaphor. Except for the fact that there’s a werewolf in the Harry Potter books who purposely likes seeking out and infecting children.

u/Kindly-Coyote-9446
People shouldn’t be fans of that series - even if you remove Rowling’s transphobia and acephobia you’re left with a series a books that are pro-slavery and aggressively antisemitic. But that said, I know more than a few people who had rough childhoods who were able to see themselves in HP’s abusive home life and who dreamed of getting that invitation to Hogwarts as an escape. So for them it really was an important part of their childhood, and I don’t know how fair it is to judge them too harshly for still having a fond connection to it. But if someone defends the author I’m done with them.

I'd argue that the HP books are also sexist. The way women are described makes me really uncomfortable.
Ron's mom is a dedicated housewife with no room to explore her further beyond her role as mother and housekeeper.
The evil pink lady, who's name I forgot, is depicted as evil not only for her actions but also because of her feminine aesthetic and presentation.
Not to mention how often Hermine is dismissed and belittled, even from her friends and colleagues.

u/Confirm_restart
I'd agree with the quote in the second paragraph.
It's one thing if you grew up loving it, and you hold onto the books you had before jkr started trying to harm people, and no longer engage with the franchise because of her actions.
But if you're still waving that flag in 2026? You're dangerous. Absolutely unsafe.

u/Angry_Scotsman7567
Yes. JK Rowling has made it abundantly clear that if you speak positively about Harry Potter, consume Harry Potter media, or purchase anything Harry Potter related, she will interpret that as support for her beliefs and will use the money she gets from that to harm trans people.
If you choose to continue to give someone like that the money, you know where it's going and what it's being spent on, and that is hurting trans people. You have to be fine with that.

u/Worldly_Marsupial808
I think that anyone who’s still a fan of Harry Potter in 2026 is either unsafe or very ignorant. If I see someone wearing merch or something, the immediate feeling will be distrust and I’ll make an effort to avoid them. I’m very unlikely to confront them about it unless we’re very close and I’ll be nice if they initiate conversation. But I’ll feel unsafe.
Honestly, even people who aren’t financially supporting her but are still fuelling the fandom will probably get a reaction like this out of me. Technically if you’re just reading fanfiction or pirating the films or whatever, that’s not the same as giving your money to her hate campaign and I’m not going to tell you off about it. But I’ll also feel like you value your own nostalgia over the lives of trans people, and I’ll keep a safe distance.

u/Hazel-Cakes
yes, if you still support jkr and harry potter, you are very much helping harm trans people, and helping fund attacks on amnesty international with her most recent crash out
yes it’s a red flag, and you’re either ignorant, or accepting of her answers
and yes, you are an unsafe person. not at as unsafe as jk rowling, not as unsafe as a murderer, but you clearly will ignore transphobia and calls to violence if it comes from someone who’s created content you enjoy.
jkr recently was posting upskirts of a british trans woman, gleefully misgendering her, and boosting people who said she was a pervert getting a sexual thrill from dressing as a woman. it’s fucking disgusting behavior for anyone with a platform. it’s legitimizing hate.
the only way to fight jkr is to not consume hp, and that truly is not a lot for someone to do.

u/d3lici0us-sham3
so i (28f) love harry potter, but i hate jk. my boyfriend is trans (28ftm) & he knows i'm just waiting for the hag to die. although i love hp, i do not support nor fund jk as much as possible. i don't stream (bc the views on streaming services show just how many people would pay a monthly fee to watch), i won't watch the hbo re-boot (unless pirated), i don't buy merch... i support local artists or small creators via etsy to buy special items. i bought used books from thrift shops (bc she doesn't get that money). i rewatch with the dvds i got as a child, even rewiring my tv to support a dvd player. i read fan-fic to support the diversity & inclusion jk so openly hates. if it has a warner bros logo, jk gets money (harry potter world tickets, movies/books/trinkets, online shopping, the noble collection, games, etc). & i do everything in my power to avoid lining her pockets.
i hate her & everything she stands for, & there is a special place in hell for her. but i won't let her ruin the safe space the fandom has turned it into.

u/CrackedMeUp
Fuck yes. People who fund our genocide and/or create an environment which encourages others to do so are not safe.
Also it's common knowledge at this point that the books are full of racist, homophobic, antisemitic, pro-slavery, pro-cop, fat shaming takes. It's been decades, playing ignorant to how horrible the actual content of the books is hasn't aged well.

u/ThatBitchMikoLylat
I consider HP fans to be unsafe and purposefully ignorant. Also, dumb.

u/IShallWearMidnight
Definitely. If someone can't drop a fictional universe for real human rights, that person can't be trusted. That's not even going into the dubious ethics of the series - it's fine for kids not to realize, but adults who consume it uncritically aren't people I want to be around.

u/soda-pops
If someone mentions harry potter without an obligatory "fuck jkr", I will be cautious. not a 100% assumption, but cautious.

u/BootyliciousURD
Rowling has outright said she spends her Harry Potter money on anti-trans stuff, so I'd agree that anyone who is in any way financially supporting her is helping harm trans people. Being an open and vocal fan of Harry Potter contributes to the popularity (and therefore the revenue) of the franchise.
To me, the only good Harry Potter fan is one who's private and quiet about it and doesn't buy or stream Harry Potter stuff.

u/Mulliganplummer
I want to respond to what you said, because I care about all of you and I don’t want anyone feeling unsafe or unheard. But I also want to be honest.

Calling an entire group of people “unsafe” simply because they’re fans of Harry Potter isn’t supported by anything factual. Liking a book or a franchise doesn’t make someone dangerous, and it doesn’t mean they’re going to harm trans people. That kind of broad generalization doesn’t reflect reality, and it ends up creating fear where it doesn’t need to exist.
I love you all, I support every one of you, and I’ve marched for your rights because I genuinely believe in your safety and dignity. But I don’t want us to fall into the idea that everyone is out to get you. There are people and situations to be cautious about, absolutely. But an entire population of people who happen to enjoy a fantasy series isn’t one of them.
I’m saying this because I care about you, and I want us to stay grounded in what’s real while still protecting each other.

u/SillyLilly_18
after this long? yeah. Wearing HP merch is like an opposite of wearing a trans flag for me. Immediately puts me on guard

u/any_old_usernam
Yes, and I'm frankly tired of coddling cis people on this.

u/sprungleybungle
yup. if the actors are able to move on from it, then we should too. i have many many other things to be nostalgic for, and would recommend others to try too.
i get that theres no ethical consumption within capitalism, there isn't a single franchise that isn't slightly tainted with exploitation, harm, bigotry, and other nastiness. but JKR has made herself to be a symbol of TERFs and used her royalties to kill our sisters. i can't sit well with someone who can continue enjoying her work.

u/rainofterra
Yes, in the same way someone who is jazzed about Mein Kampf is an unsafe person. I can’t believe this is a real question.

u/Every-Helicopter5046
I wouldnt use the language of unsafe, but it is, like, a strike against their character, yk? It shows either a degree of ignorance or lack of principles, which makes them less trustworthy or intelligent in my eyes. If you can't let go of that which is used to fund the oppression of others, we ain't gonna be besties, that's for sure.

u/ManyNoots
Someone who supports her stuff is in my eyes willingly ignorant at best, so yeah I tend to avoid anyone into the franchise now

u/ND8586
I don't know about unsafe but I would definitely be getting bad vibes from that person, and life is hard enough as it is without having extra bad vibes to deal with

u/Hugs154
It’s not only that they aren’t bothered by her harmful actions/rhetoric. She directly funds anti-trans groups with the profits from her books. There are countless other children’s fantasy novels that you can read and love without contributing to the popularity of a franchise that directly funds anti-trans politics! It’s really not okay at this point.

I get that some people can be uninformed and just don't know about what she has said and done, but to me it is a dog whistle when someone has in their dating profile for instance that one of their interests is Harry Potter, or they call themselves things like "Hufflepuff". I'm pretty sure some TERFS use it with intent. Not HP-related, but I've even seen on Tinder, someone had a picture of themselves with a t-shirt saying "TERF is the new punk" so there is no doubt some people have these views and wishes to express them.

u/Ok-Environment-4793
I'm very radical. Any person who's still fan of her work is also transphobic just like her. Am I being extremist? I don't care. Trans people are being killed and the world isn't doing anything to save us. Trans people are being KILLED and cis people aren't even brave enough to stop being a fan of HP.

u/sweet_surroundings
While I am an HP fan, I actively avoid giving the author money or wearing HP stuff in public, because I don't want trans people to think a I'm an unsafe person. I have tried replacing HP as my autistIc special interest, but it didn't work.

u/CobaltConqueror
At this point, anybody giving money to JK Rowling is a material threat to the legal rights and wellbeing of trans people in the UK. Rowling has already contributed to the anti-rights push in the UK, and now she's suing Amnesty International for condemning the laundry list of anti-trans, anti-feminist and anti-LGBT groups involved in the push against British LGBT rights. All the money from her books, the movies, the merch and her upcoming TV show is now being leveraged against Amnesty International.
People need to understand that this has gone further than anyone feared and anybody contributing to it is responsible for what comes next. There's no more room to extend good will to people who don't know better.

Yes. They willfully aid our genocide without a care because they prefer their derealism more.

u/yellowsen
Trans or not, it’s vile indeed. They say that you need to separate the book from the author, but this author uses money earned by their books to promote anti trans shit. And they had the fucking audacity to put a trans character in hogwarts legacy.

u/EmpressRoth
I think harry potter fans should be ashamed and hide their books if they aren't actively reading it

u/tesswantstobecute
yes. full stop.
fans of [insert any fandom here] are never content to not talk about [fandom]. they make fanfic, fanart, lend books/dvds etc to new people or just speak about [fandom] in a way that makes other people interested. while not everyone who expresses that interest will run out and buy the source material, every new person added to the fandom keeps it alive. you can't grab someone's curiosity like that without most of them wanting fuller context.
in Rowling's case, the longer the HP fandom is kept relevant, the longer she has a steady income to harm with. so yeah, anyone who says they are still an HP fan is unsafe. their fandom actively makes my world an unsafe place to exist and until people start recognizing that and actively trying to work against it (boycotting her works, spreading truth about what she does with her money) then every HP fan is unsafe for trans people.
next question

u/maybe_rat
I absolutely view them as unsafe, especially if they actively buy things or participate in the fandom.
When I was on dating apps, including their Hogwarts house was an auto swipe left. On an old RP website where I ran roleplay groups, I’d block any user I saw who said they RP’d HP and banned HP FCs. I will not interact with people that talk about writing/reading HP fanfics.
This is because I have yet to meet or interact with fans of HP that didn’t eventually prove me right. Most notable being my mom who engages with it in every way possible (who threatened to hang a certain political flag about where I slept when I was temporarily staying with her), a roommate who was excited about buying the new game (who fed my cat junk food when I wasn’t home and kept her locked up in my room while pet sitting for me so she destroyed my carpet), and a trans woman I worked with who actively bought HP candy and wore her hp merch to and from work (and joked that I had diabetes because I was slightly overweight).
I’ve never met an HP fan who was also a good person and I just don’t want to try anymore

u/haremenot
If someone considers themself a Harry Potter fan currently, I think they value their comfort and personal enjoyment over the safety and health of trans people.
Does that make them inherently unsafe? Thats an individual determination to make.
But when JKR uses vast sums her money gained primarily from Harry Potter to make the UK (and world if possible) a worse place for trans people, no amount of "but I can separate the art from the artist" can erase that fact.
Yes, there have been other bigoted authors. There have been those that have used their influence for bad things. But the number of authors with her amount of money, power and influence is vanishingly small (maybe george rr martin?).
I just dont value a childrens series (that i loved and meant a lot to me!!!) more than i value trans people being able to just live their lives.

u/-----username-----
Not only does giving JK Rowling money fund transphobia and hate, continuing to watch or read Harry Potter normalizes it so even if you already owned the media or you pirate it, it’s basically giving a green light to others to fund her nonsense. Not to mention the normalization of racism and slavery in the books.
I threw away / deleted everything I had related to Harry Potter years ago and I consider anyone who hasn’t done that to be extremely untrustworthy.

u/ACHARED
All I know is that no other works of homophobic/transphobic/racist etc. writers/artists face this much... not criticism, but a sort of a forced moral weight. I truthfully don't care about anyone who likes HP, I have plenty of other problems in my life. Especially as a trans/gay person in the country I live in.
Anglophones should keep in mind that this discourse is strictly online & perfectly benign randoms who support LGBT in any non-anglophone country have no idea about any of this, don't know what JKR did/does, and won't ever find out. The concept of labeling most of the world "unsafe" due to a political issue exclusive to a couple foreign countries is quite astonishing.

This is the thing I can’t say I understand. There is no shortage of stuff in entertainment that are connected to bad people and things, but almost none of them are treated with the same “moral weight” that you mention is given to Harry Potter. Many of the people I know who disdain others who still like or engage with HP in any form, for example, watch sports that have leagues with huge known problems of covering up abuse both of and by athletes. They play games from studios known to abuse their employees or have some CEO with shitty views. None of it is treated as the moral event horizon that Harry Potter is.
I completely agree. As an example for when I got truly fully sick and tired of this discourse was when a couple years ago, Neil Gaiman was exposed to be an actual vile person. I don't remember the details of the issue, but I recall he blackmailed and sexually assaulted/coerced his housekeeper, something to that effect. I'd read the whole article back then and it kept getting worse with every paragraph. Yet this discourse doesn't exist for Good Omens, people who like Good Omens aren't forced to become fandom pariahs, liking Good Omens didn't become synonymous with supporting an evil rotten rapist. I don't understand why HP is being held to such a standard purely because of the person who made it. I don't understand how it became so that your levels of transphobia = how much you like HP. I genuinely think it's a psyop to make us all look insane and reactionary.

u/madmarmalade
If an LGB person has it on their Tinder profile, I take it as read that they won't date trans people.
