See a lot of sports here, but as someone who started rowing on a whim and fell in love, it's sad we don't have one. Figured I'd start one. I know we gotta have some oarsmen here. Coxs welcome too :)
Not for kayaking, paddle boarding, etc.
Dragon boats by invitation only :)
Idk, if this is too specific, mods can feel free to take it down.
Bit of background, I went to university in my later 20s after gaining a shit ton of weight at the end of highschool. I went to Community College and worked. Then transferred in my late 20s to get my bachelor's. Went to a pretty big school but rowing was club. However, our coach had more years behind him teaching our program when it was D1 than club. They actually tried to push me out. But I was naive and determined and they figured I'd drop within the first month. But I powered through for 2 whole years. First year I didn't race. Just gained speed and lost weight. Managed to go from 260lbs down to 200lbs. Did some fine freshman racing my second year. Nothing terribly special, but I'm proud of it. Wish I could've done 2 more years and kinda sad I didn't just bite the bullet and go there to begin with on a loan.
Changed how I looked at food and fitness. I'm more or less 210lbs today, a few years out. I got a small amount of gut fat, where it seems to disproportionately hold. My arms look fine to even skinny, but my gut remains. So I've spent the time trying to cut out that last bit of fat so I look like the athlete I am. It's hard without a team.

I've never rowed on a crew team, but do use the machines for warmup or as cardio/finisher. If you've never done it before, the first few workouts will be brutal, and it does a great job adding resistance to an otherwise boring cardio workout.

It doesn't replace weightlifting, but if I had to pick one all-around exercise, it would probably be rowing.
