Besides the Smuckers birthday greetings, what I remember the most about him is him crying on the air after Susan Smith admitted she let her two sons drown after she rolled her car into the lake. Many of my co-workers at the time cried when they heard about it, and it humanized him even more to me.
I've never seen that before or after, even during 9/11.
