I get why they went with the art style because it was supposed to reference the pixilated aspect of the first two games but with a modern sheen.
But man at the time, Monkey Island was looking state of the art with those. if you're making a brand new game it would benefit to make it resemble something more detailed and intricate.
I mean if they continued with the stylistic precedent of the past games it would have probably resembled something closer to Spyro.

I can see the dude's more sensitive than he probably should be, but again I don't judge games based on public personas. If he writes an angry orange character with bad hair then I'll start judging him harshly lol

I have faith in Gilbert not including any forced hot takes and I hope they continue off from 2 instead of the sequels.

Found on /v/, it looks like these were some of the comments that Ron deleted.
So not even really "personal attacks" or even threats. Just people saying the artstyle looks like shit. But if you look over at reddit, you can see the narrative is getting set: Ron is a poor victim.

The best graphics for the series of classic Monkey Island games, as defined by 1, 2, & 3 is #3 (Curse of Monkey Island):

This is, I believe, MI3 design - in 4 he was randomly switching between ghost (1), zombie (2) and this fire zombie (3).

If Gilbert is really committed to this art style, then he should be spending more of his energy making a game so amazing that it will make his critics eat their words and less time bitching about he’s no longer one of the cool kids.

Jesus Christ the art gives me eye cancer! It looks absolutely fucking nasty!
Why did they chose to make the art style worse? I didn't like it in The Curse of Monkey Island but this is just terrible. The non undead characters all have liveless beady black pig eyes. Also Guybrush...omg! Like a 40 year old man with an ugly dick nose. Was that really necessary? And then we have whiny man-child Ron Gilbert who made it look like garbage ON PURPOSE. What the hell?? Did he want to create a controversy to get victim points & more attention? It really seems that way. He even wrote that he chose the art style to subvert expectations so he knew that would cause fans to complain.
I really wanted to like this game but now I realize it's not worth paying the full price or even any price. Not after Gilberts tantrum & seeing the bizarre art style that only exists because hurr durr people neeever expected it!!1
