Frankly if you can't figure out how to recognize スタート or はじめる or ひとりで or occasionally つづける from fumbling with a menu for 20 seconds you might as well just rope, it's usually the first item anyway
I am rune-blind and can only read White man script, those all look like random squiggles to me and they always will. Anyway, stuff button configs are a nightmare to figure out by trial-and-error.

Google Translate is good to give some context, but it doesn't translate everything.
True, but it is better than something like playing Sword of Vermillion in Japanese with no guide. Learning the hard way that one of the commands in the churches is to forget a spell cost me multiple hours of progress at one point.

Long shot but I might as well ask.

Got the nostalgic urge to try Mercenaries 2 again. I own it on 360, but my 360 is currently in storage. There is a PC version, but I saw one comment mention the best way to play it today is just get the PS3 version and use RPCS3.

Any opinions?

I hate game collecting sometimes, man.

The Shmup? Why not go for the original Mega drive version? Is it not cheaper? Also for imports you should never go with Ebay. Unless it's a obscure game that someone decided to put up for auction, you're going to be paying a massive up-charge over using import services.

The biggest issue with the PC version is that it doesn't use XBOX button prompts. It instead uses abstract pictures of the default actions (e.g. entering/leaving vehicles, punching etc.) that those buttons represent. This is very bad during the hijacking QT events where you must identify the correct button in a split second.

I don't have a Genesis/Mega Drive unfortunately.

This is an unfortunate problem with many pre-2010 PC ports and why I think it's very valuable to have a real Xbox or 360 even when there are PC ports of most games.

Usually. If you factor in shipping costs and fees it sometimes is about the same and easier to use ebay.

I used to use Amazon Japan to buy used games but lately it's been pretty hard to get anything not ultra common. I used to get some insane deals, like 1/3 the price for brand new old stock on amazon jp vs used on ebay.

Just emulate it. Most of the really cool stuff that wasn't an arcade port was usually not localized. A lot of the really cool stuff is just now getting fan translations done.
Isn’t Genesis emulation shoddy at best? I know there’s a bunch of emulators out there, but I don’t know which one is perceived to be the most accurate.

That was true 15 years ago or so, but the issues have been conquered.

The main issue was emulation of the Yamaha chip used for audio, but just the jump in average computing power has wiped it out. Also, most of the issues were platform-dependant. Genesis emulation was perfect on Macs in the late 1990s due to both being Motorola 680x0 systems.

No? Genesis emulation has been great since about two decades ago.
Huh, good to know. I guess I haven’t really been following emulation news much lately.

Lately? Are you 10,000 years old or something?
I mean, I didn’t really pay attention to emulation stuff back then as I preferred using original hardware. I still prefer it, but emulation is certainly very nice to have, especially for systems that are expensive and/or relatively obscure.
