Isn't the Saturn version not as good though?
It has performance issues due to the team handling the port not converting the game to actually be 2D.

The PSX version uses a lot of clever trickery to make polygonal graphics look and act like sprites, because the PS1 wasn't made for 2D graphics.

The Saturn version dev tried to convert those clever tricks to the Saturn's highly funky 3D systems and it didn't go all that well.

The only reason some people prefer that version is the extra area, which was cut out of the PS1 version due to being incomplete, which makes the value of including it dubious.

Didn't know that the Saturn version had more content. Speaking of the Saturn, I avoided collecting for it since I keep hearing about how it's just a really expensive system to collect for and most of the must-have titles have to be imported.

It is true. over 90% of the Saturn library never made it out of Japan, and some of the great games for it are extremely pricy, and even some of the less-amazing stuff is expensive just because everyone with a Saturn wants them.

You are better off emulating Saturn.

If I ever struck it rich I'd buy a Saturn.

What's the best Saturn emulator?
I bought a cheap white Japan region Saturn, a handful of games including Puyo Puyo Tsuu & Sun and one of the Magical Drop games, and then use Pseudo Saturn to play discs of everything else. Been thinking to get a SAROO. No need to be rich.

Apparently the pre release version of the core Modretro is using in the M64 is not very accurate. That's not to say it won't improve, the A3D core has improved since it came out, but the release date is fast approaching. Very disappointing considering how accurate their Gameboy seems to be. Look how far Mario 64 falls behind the A3D and real hardware:

Yeah, I’m not watching that.

“Not very accurate” is a bit of a stretch considering the official compatibility list, and given what they previously said about accuracy tests, it looks like the system passed all tests that used to exist (including the ones that Analogue failed), but the guy making the N64 core made more tests that the M64 is failing.

All that being said, it’s concerning that Mario 64 of all things doesn’t run 100% perfectly, and even more concerning that Buck Bumble, one of the four launch titles, isn’t perfect. Even though most players won’t notice any issues, it’s the same situation as Analogue: they promised 100% accuracy, and it’s not 100% accurate.

I’m still getting one though. It looks great overall and the price is good, especially considering the potential of porting MiSTer cores. I’ll also grab one or two of the cheap Hyperkin controllers to replace my worn-out OEMs along with a SummerCart to replace my old EverDrive.

Same. They suck, like nearly all western gaming outlets.

Looking at their current list, a good chunk of games still have minor or major issues. Hopefully those get resolved eventually. Also, does the M64 work with JP and PAL titles as well? It only lists US games from what I've seen.

I’ve done some digging around on their (may Allah forgive me) subreddit and the CEO has been active with the community over the last week or so. There’s a brief write-up in the comments here with more to come soon about what’s going on with accuracy. The short version is that they have a few common issues left that are impacting a large number of games, and they’re confident that the accuracy on day one will be equal to or better than Analogue in every sense. I trust the retro VR weapons autist.

And yes, it’s region-free.

I understand he's a mush mouthed faggot, but does he have any known vendetta against the M64? This video seemingly contains raw footage of the M64 dead ass ending up about 8 seconds behind an original N64 when letting the opening demo play for a little under a minute.
The analogue 3D is quite trash when it comes to accuracy. Either the M64 is going to be unplayable or else they are being disingenuous, from what I've seen in retro outlets either are not just possible but likely
I've found a lot of the retro gaming Youtubers gush over products they get for free and tear products they don't get sent for free a new asshole. Most of them don't even try to hide it.

Oh I’m not doubting the video itself, I’m just not gonna watch them in general. Mush mouthed faggot and all that. And I don’t know if they have a vendetta against the M64 specifically, but I’ve yet to see a left-leaning channel talk about it without devolving into “muh selling KILLING WEAPONS OF DEATH to blumpf”.

Literally all these gaming channels have to do is just talk about video games. But for some reason, a lot of left-leaning/progressive ones like Jeremy Parish tend to inject retarded political trash opinions into their videos when no average person watching wants to hear that. This probably belongs in the gaming journalism thread tbh, but eh.

I just use a Saturn with a Fenrir ODE installed, no way I was gonna pay what collectors want for some of these games. I bought it with it installed but it's pretty easy to put in any Saturn, just have to unplug/remove the disk drive and plug in the ODE board.

Also if you're into MiSTer, the Saturn/Sega STV cores are good.

Parish was forcing politically correct bullshit into his output before 2010. Total faggot.

I gotcha. Yeah, singling out Modretro in that regard always seemed unfair. Like, we're going to act like all these devices aren't made in Chinese sweatshops where people are treated like shit because Lucky Palmer makes attack drones. Nobody wins in a purity spiral.

I’d have more faith in a product Luckey is involved with hitting perfect function than anything Analogue shits out to the scalper market.

He actually plays games on the stuff he makes, and he WANTS his product to be the definitive experience, not just something to put in a glass case to show off that you own one.
