I wish capcom made some more tank control games with the REmake engine. Churn out a few games with 20 year old specs that still hold up today. Less dev time, less memory space. Less costs. The backdrops are pre-rendered so re-used assets are less noticeable.
I liked the feel of the old RE games were you're just exploring places and managing your inventory. All the overblown action stuff kinda knocks the wind out it's sails.
At this point, someone should just pool their resources and try for a fan remake of certain older games in that style or something. If it's a game that Capcom has no interest in remaking or reviving, they're a lot more likely to just ignore it, unlike Nintendo.
The one big example of a Resident Evil fan game being given a C&D in the past few years that I can remember would be that fan remake of RE2 and this was issued because they were working on the actual RE2 remake at the time.
As far as I know, the recent Code Veronica remake project has been going a lot better and lasting a lot longer than I expected, given it's a fan project and all. I should see if there are any new updates on it since I haven't checked on it in a while.
As much as I like to say that Resident Evil: Survivor was a flawed but still enjoyable hidden gem, I think it really is the perfect choice for the fan remake treatment for a variety of reasons unrelated to my admittedly unpopular opinions on it.
Survivor is a short and relatively simple game that still uses the tank controls (albeit in first-person) and classic RE monsters and it's also likely safe from Capcom issuing a C&D since its the classic RE game that's the least likely to get remade or re-released outside of maybe Gaiden.
