Yes, there can be 'good' and 'bad' autists (and neutral ones, maybe, they probably just play with trains a lot) If the author doesn't recognize this or tries to slather over it, it's a pretty good sign that he\she is one of the bad ones and knows it.

And to embrace the metaphor used, the same does apply to cripples, along a spectrum. Deciding to climb a mountain despite having a severe physical defect? Good. Deciding to band together and force a university to take its free course lectures offline because they haven't provided perfect accessibility for the deaf?
