Local Republican elected officials publicly support Fort Worth substitute teacher Jason Buchanan, who reportedly called for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to come to Northside High School.
“I absolutely stand by the First Amendment and the teacher’s right to express himself on her personal social media platform. Furthermore, citizens of Tarrant County are being taxed out of their homes, in part because their property taxes are paying for illegal aliens to be educated,” House District 91 State Representative David Lowe told The Dallas Express.
“Government schools are scared to death that Donald Trump and Tom Homan are going to deport a huge chunk of the students who are illegal aliens. They will do everything to stop it because they don’t want to lose all the money they are making from this scam. However, it’s our obligation to report illegal aliens to ICE. This teacher is doing what all Americans should be doing,” Tarrant County GOP Bo French said.
Fort Worth ISD is currently investigating Buchanan, who allegedly called on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) via X to deport illegal aliens attending North Side High School.
“Y’all should come to Fort Worth, TX to Northside High School,” read the post, which was in response to an ICE enforcement update, KERA reported.
The rest of the post reportedly reads: “I have many students who don’t even speak English, and they are in 10th-11th grade. They have to communicate through their iPhone translator with me. The @USEDGOV should totally overhaul our school system in Texas,” per ABC 13 News.
The posts were made by the account @HookEm232, associated with a person who reportedly lives in Fort Worth. The profile lacks additional identifying details and is currently private.
Over 60% of Fort Worth ISD students are of Latino descent, per KERA. Almost 40% of the district’s more than 70,000 students are enrolled in bilingual or English-as-a-second-language programs.
Fort Worth ISD Interim Superintendent Karen Molinar emphasized in a written statement that the district is “deeply committed to fostering schools where every student feels accepted, valued, and supported, regardless of their background of immigration status.”
“In the event that any parents are detained during school hours, the district will ensure the safety of students until an authorized adult can pick up the child, while complying with state and federal child welfare laws,” Molinar continued.
“Please be assured that we are taking this situation very seriously and are committed to resolving it as quickly as possible,” school board President Roxanne Martinez said in a statement, per KERA News.
When asked about the X post, Buchanan told The Dallas Express that the reported news was “fake.”
“But I do not have social media in any form. I don’t even have a Facebook. So I’m very confused myself. But if you prove your credentials and things fall a certain way, I have the real story. Because the news that is out there is all fake. Have a good day,” Buchanan said.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Fort Worth ISD made national headlines in 2019 when it dismissed one of its teachers, Georgia Clark, for posting political tweets. The tweets, directed at then-President Donald Trump, were critical of the unlawful migration crisis at the southern border.
Although the board took action against Clark, seemingly over her political posts, no teachers with left-wing political posts have been similarly penalized.
Reports from FWISD Watchdog now indicate that Buchanan has been terminated, but Fort Worth ISD has not issued an official statement.
The Dallas Express reached out to Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Karen Molinar and Board President Roxanne Martinez but did not receive a response.
