That's actually a fairly recent occurrence. If you go back to the Middle Ages there is art of the Prophet Muhammad and Allah. It was only more recent sects decided to ban the image and go after people for posting it

Are you sure about that? All the old images I've seen of Muslim art, his face was always veiled.

Certainly they've gotten a lot more hardcore about most of the commandments in recent times.
