I know there is already a reddit general, and threads devolved to several reddit communities, but I wanted to make a thread specific to reddit speak. You know, these specific words or expressions that you see regularly popping up on reddit caps, which then spread to the world wide web. For some reason, these words never fail to unnerve me. They're like the cherry on top of the whole sperging of a reddit screenshot. They encapsulate to themselves, despite being few letters, a whole way of thinking, a way of seeing the world, that I find despicable.

As I'm not a direct reddit user, I don't have an extensive knowledge on this lingo. I will start by listing the few words that I already know about, and ask you for your input to complete this dictionnary, that I will try to keep updated as much as I can.

Reddit speak dictionnary

Centrist: People who could fuck me up in a fight

Collector : in reddit speak, it's used to cope with the fact that you're a consoomer manchild that drop grands on plastic mass-produced crap that won't be worth shit in few years.

Doggo : synonymous of dog, in plain english. Variants : sea doggo, to refer to a seal, because they're totally cute sea dogs and not wild animals at all.

Heckin' : synonymous of fuckin' but pegi 3, to accomodate manchildren and ageplayers who use the website.

Hubby : a way for female redditors to refer to their male partner. For some reason, whenever I see this word, I picture said parter as an obese manchild.

Name censoring : Cowardly losers who are scared of retaliation.

S.O (significant other) : not sure it's reddit speak per se, but it's another way to refer to your partner without metionning their gender. Homos already used partner, but the word is too short I guess. To make words more inclusive, you always have to lengthen them into a string of words (for instance : mother -> birthing parent).

Walnut : retard but repackaged as wholesome and non-offensive, because this word was used 50+ years ago by doctors to describe special needs people.

Wholesome : synonymous of feelgood things. Whilst there is no problem with the latter, in my opinion, wholesome content can be toxic because it pushes you not to think critically. If you do, redditors will accuse you of being someone not fun at parties, or worse, a bigot. Idk if that makes sense. Tinfoil but I suspect it to be another tool of reddit brainwashing.

Wifey : wife. I can't help to imagine said "wifey" as a fat pick-me, who brags about she doesn't need an engagement ring to feel loved by her redditor, and is the main breadwinner while doing all the housechores.

Am I the only person on the earth that doesn't take issue with significant other and partner?

I just think it sounds less juvenile than boyfriend/girlfriend so more accurately describes a serious adult relationship.

My mother and father are not married but they refer to each other as partners, or my other 1/2... i think if you need to be married to someone to prove the loyalty you have already lost, i see people have a full-blown church wedding and i ask them so they believe in God, they look at me confused not even fully understanding what they have done, truth is people just copy what other people do to fit in, Humans have mastered chameleon without even noticing they do it i suppose the chameleon also does not know it is changing colour it is an automatic system.

I don't care about partner either, S.O on the other hand rubs me in the wrong way, but it's probably autism. I can delete it from the list.

Not sure if redditspeak but when people /sneed /j, or god forbid link to a subreddit like /r/woosh, off-site especially, I can't help but cringe. It's like 4chan teens greentexting on Twitter but somehow worse.
It's extended far beyond reddit, but this is still fundamentally reddit: "toxic", an adjective referring to fun and engaging communities or ideas.
Toxic definitely rustles my jimmies a little. It's by far the most passive-agressive way to shit talk someone and people toss the word around like a football nowadays. I miss when people could just call someone a dickhead or say "I don't like X" and sort it out from there.

Reddit is fine for a source of information if you want to get involved in the comment section that is your choice, but i am sure if you ask a normal question in the comment section you will get a normal answer, personally, i got banned from making posts and commenting from winding up idiots that are touchy a bit like you lot moaning about how your talking now.

Isn't Reddit where the overuse of "cringe" - as another way of saying "wrongthink" or "what I don't like" - started?
Ah, that happens everywhere. It's like how "cuck" became a catch-all term for someone you don't like. To be honest though, I think "cringe" is a pretty good word with great utility. Or it would be if morons didn't use cringe to describe anything that makes them mildly uncomfortable. It accurately describes, for example, the second-hand embarrassment you feel when watching the classic Foam Adventure video.

I agree, it's such a soft way to describe something, it has no real impact. "Retarded" has much more punch to it than "tahxxic".
