That was a looong time ago. They're just hypocrites, they were pro-free press back when they didn't control the press. There were plenty of leftists bitching about the media back when the media was pro-bush and pro-war. But only because they didn't control it and because the media wasn't on their side.
Noam Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent calls out the media and press for their propaganda, but I doubt he'd make that movie/book nowadays when they parrot the things he agrees with.
