I skipped some commentaries, due to the fact I have no knowledge of those movies; but I don't think that matters when it comes to RLM. If you like them, anything is entertaining involving them. So maybe I'll finish up.

i like listening to them, even without the movie

It's a hard balance, sometimes they talk about things that have nothing to do with what's on screen so you could listen to those parts like a podcast, but then they start talking about the visuals or cinematography and I feel bad for missing out.

I always listen to them even without watching the actual movie.

They always have interesting discussions not directly related to the movie itself, which makes me wish they did an actual podcast because I also really enjoyed their appearances on the Bunny Ears podcast.

It's weird that in that, Josh admits to loving PCU (a movie that's a guilty pleasure for me too). It doesn't seem like the movie that would be kosher for the NPC crowd.

Good point. To the SJWs it is a "terrible" film because it laughs at so many of their sacred cows. I recently rewatched it (because I found the DVD cheap) and it is absolutely mediocre at worst - with a large part of your enjoyment depending on how well you like Jeremy Piven. It is hilarious to see Jon Favreau as a washed-out college pothead though.

I mean the first part is very strong with a lot of great writing and jokes along with set ups for some things late in the script, but it is dragged down by what amounts to an extended music video in the 2nd act (Shooting the Rodeo definitely).

It's not bad for a sequel to Animal House, and if anything one might wonder if its relevance has grown the last few years (the main villain being a dead ringer for nancy pelosi is kind of funny too).

Evil circuses (and by association, freak shows) have been an aesthetic for the punk/goth crowd for decades. I don't get it myself, but then again I think all goths should be gassed so what do I know?

Huge trope in the 90s, maybe it just fit with the grunge aesthetic? Personally I prefer the musty theater vibe for grunge, has some freakshow overlap as well:

Also I freaked out at Jay mentioning Media Play, I thought I was the only one that remembered that store and no, they weren't just a Midwest thing.

I'm fascinated by the aesthetics of decades that people usually forget.

When you say the 1990s to people today they usually think of the day glo Lisa Frank type aesthetic, they forget the darker stuff.

One good example is the works of illustrator Lane Smith which you often saw in various things back then.

Of all the abuse Rich has suffered over the years at the hands of Mike, watching and talking about modern Trek was what caused him to stand up and tell mike no. It's absolutely beautiful.
