I was looking at the YouTube comments and one guy talked about dementia is the reason for the earpiece and Willis just cannot memorize lines anymore.

The first time I heard Willis speak in those clips I said "oh shit he has dementia".

The hearing aid thing, specially during the Misery play, was the thing that picked my attention about that. It reminded me of Michael Gambon, who started developing alzheimer's disease and had to wear one while he was on stage so he could remember his lines.

Really sad to see Bruce go like this, dude was a legit amazing actor back in his day, really good mix of charisma and seriousness.

it scares me that I recognized one of the directors mentioned in the Bruce Willis video, he's a really low budget horror director whose mom worked on Jem and the Holograms.

I had never heard of Bruce Willis having any sort of cognitive decline until I saw people mention it in the comments, I'd always just assumed he stopped caring at some point and was just gonna keep coasting along doing these low budget (except for his paycheck) movies. If he's doing it to build up a nest egg for his family while he's still able, that's bittersweet; if he's being pushed into it by a money-grubbing asshole trying to score a paycheck based off of his name, that's sad in a different way.

I'm guessing they probably won't bring it up, it's rare for them to do follow-ups in general and it would put a bit of a downer on the video as well. The discussion of the cynical producer behind these movies is still relevant and interesting, but now I just feel kinda bad for Bruce.

I had no idea the Bruce Willis movies were that bad. I had assumed they were lower budget or had some bad writing but Bruce would be in it for 5 minutes and tent pole it up. How wrong I was. I was straight up uncomfortable with the clips from Apex. It really is Space Cop bad. Somehow learning it may be due to dementia makes me feel better? Because wow at least he has a valid excuse for why he isn't trying at all.

If you managed to catch the review before Youtube shat the bed, Near Dark is actually available with a free trial of Starz or someshit on Amazon Prime.
Also I realized about 5 minutes into the movie that Nathan Petrelli from Heroes plays the main character and that makes the movie so much funnier.

Surprised it took them this long to do a Re:View of Near Dark, it's the perfect Re:View movie, not so obscure as to be unlikely they've seen it, but obscure enough to be interesting to audiences, it's also just an interesting movie to talk about and a perfect example of a "cult classic"

Unfortunately when I saw the movie thanks to the infamous Twilight ripoff cover blu ray I was fairly disappointed, yes the bar scene, Bill Paxton and Lance Hendrickson are all amazing, but the movie's flaws bothered me more than it did them, I think my problem was too high expectations, I was under the impression it was a great movie instead of a flawed movie with moments of greatness.

The blood transfusion scene being chief among my issues, what's funny is the original ending to 28 Days Later was the same idea, someone getting rid of the the infection via blood transfusion, but in the director's commentary Danny Boyle says "but how the bleeding fuck do we expect anyone to buy when we establish one single drop of blood spreads the infection?", maybe vampirism takes more than one drop to spread in Near Dark's world, but still, it's very far fetched.

Another interesting movie starring the blond lead actress in Near Dark by the way is 1989's I, Madman, I'd love to see them do a Re:View on that movie.

Glad I bought the blu ray when I did, it's weird to think that we're in a far flung enough future where things like blu rays can be long out of print and expensive, but from what I understand there's quite a few rare blu rays out there.

Near Dark desperately needs one of those fancy Shout Factory re-releases with a much better cover.

The whole "blood transfusion cures vampirism" pissed me off and destroyed the movie for me. It's why I would welcome a remake: just remove the blood transfusion bs, have a more likeable main character and boom.

It does pretty much ruin the movie, in theory it would be a good pick for a remake, but you could never replicate Bill Paxton's performance, the dude is the best thing about the movie (in addition to the bar scene, I also love the way he cocks his shotgun and says "check out time!" in the hotel shootout scene)

Even 5 years later I'm still not over Bill Paxton's death, the dude was just awesome.
