I didn't know this thread existed so I'll shoot my shot. I am in need of a WordPad alternative that can embed files. I created another thread on QnA not knowing this thread exists. I do not wish to use an office program as they tend to be bloated and take awhile to get used to. I want a kind of rich text editor that can embed and run Doom.
Hi yes I look for alternate to WordPad.
Its good for taking notes of many things like users, lolcows, and general notetaking as well as embedding.
Sadly it is no longer on any computers that I use.
I do not want to use Word cause that costs money and is too big. I will not be using LibreOffice because that is lame and gay.
Here is what I would want to do in my software. Notice how I use an external software to edit my files?
Reading through this thread, there doesn't appear to be good software suggestions.
LibreOffice
Confusing UI navigation and takes too long to download and set up, comes packaged with other software I do not want. It is literally the Gimp to Photoshop. I would rather use Word instead.
Word
Many computers that I use does actually come with Word but it is a subscription, requires a Microsoft login built into the OS. It is really good but I do not like the transcriber. Also comes bundled with other software and very bloated.
Word Online
Too resource intensive and lacks many good features compared to Word. Abysmal.
OpenOffice
Their files can be embedded with WordPad. UI looks comprehensive but lacking in features. Still I do not want an office suite.
Wordpad
Its no longer supported.
Office 97
My love for Office 97 is great but some things deserve to stay in the past. Besides there's no support.
Jarte
Last update was 8 years ago, built on top of Wordpad. The most confusing navigation ui I have seen. I enjoyed the small features like the Typing sounds and tabs. Then again this is just Wordpad 2.
Vim/Neovim/NeoVide
I WILL NOT USE A TERMINAL TO EDIT RICH TEXT THEN WRITE LUA SCRIPTS TO CONFIGURE MY TERMINAL.
wordperfect 5.0
Costs money. Also this is an office suite.
Linux
K now what rich text editor retard?
Atlantis Word Processor
Looks good but costs money (50 bucks is a bit much for me.). I like everything about this software as it is rich with personality, the typewriter sounds, lovely names for the colors, good ui customization, tabs. Sadly there is no embedding though (At least none I can find). A lot of cool features but the lack of file embedding is a deal breaker.
Notepad++
That's a plain text editor. Even with plugins, the text won't look good.
Wine Wordpad
I am not switching to Linux.
WordTsar
Looks like a command line interface, no.
WordFocus
I want all the doodads, switches, blinkers, buttons, thingamabobs.
