Are reaction .gifs completely accepted now on the Farms, or are mods all away celebrating Eid Al Fitr? :islamic: I'm seeing them in just about every thread and often surprisingly well-upvoted.

If we allow them unchecked, can I also suggest we adopt a 140 character limit and a free lobotomy?
:autism: :drink:

It depends more or less on how they're used. Reaction pics and GIFs are generally frowned upon (except for Inner Circle and the Supporter's forum) because they're a form of shitposting. However, I have seen more of them pop up on occasion (during a Halal thread or some such) and haven't been removed unless there's an accompanying comment that furthers the conversation in some way. It's safe to say that there's a time and place for when they're used, but not all the time.

We have like 12 mods and 2.3 million posts. Use the report button or shut up.

I've seen mods post a few replies down from reaction .gifs and I've had reported .gifs go un-removed, so I was genuinely curious in a General Montgomery sort of way if my standards were being pushed to their grave by 'Scrubs' characters egregiously mouthing 'Why?' with no accompanying text.

To paraphrase Vic Mackie, I'm sure the mods can solve nearly every crime if they have the resources; it's just a matter of shifting the focus of attention. I was just checking in to see if it is indeed still an infraction based on their immense popularity on Twitter seemingly bleeding over to here.

Anyway, Eid Mubarak.

Posts consisting of nothing but a reaction image often get deleted if reported. Posts consisting of nothing but "hurr durr" and a reaction image similarly. Posts consisting of some actual comment and a reaction image generally only get deleted if they're stupid and annoying. Posts consisting of pure, unadulterated autism punctuated every few lines with reaction images tend to get deleted.

Mostly it has to do with whether they're reported and, if they're reported, whether the mod that sees the report finds stupid, worthless, annoying or otherwise it would improve the thread to delete it.

Posters who routinely post worthless reaction image posts that nobody likes get warning points, and very rarely, if someone is intensely stupid and really won't lay off they can get banned.

It's like most rules. The real rule is don't be annoying and stupid. Don't shitpost excessively. If people think it's funny you'll get away with it usually.

If you think it's annoying and stupid, report it. Just don't expect mods to do much if people are shitposting in a thread that's clearly on its way to Spergatory anyway.

We usually err on the side of caution and even if a post is very dumb we don't delete them. It usually has to be so dumb no one can wager that someone might take enjoyment out of it for it to be deleted.

Some reaction images can be funny but very seldom and only if the reaction image is extremely relevant to the topic. That's why we don't have a written rule on reaction images. It falls under "if you have nothing to say, don't post."
