RationalWiki - Whiny hugbox for spergs and a clusterfuck of neverending drama on a rapidly declining website.

It is. I don't know where they get the whole IP thing from.

I seem to remember that this user posted as a BON before registering an account - this became apparent in one of the hilarious recent coop cases. I would like to think there is something fishy going on here but it does not seem so.

I could probably find the posts about this but would loose the will to live while doing so.

@WhoopieDoo how do you feel about these guys using RationalWiki as a vehicle to smear and attack an anti-sex-trafficking charity in defense of a pedophile because they disagree over fucking video games?

Not keeping up with RW drama, so I don't know.

Thet probably look at certain topics and any unregistered users they they think have a similar style. Seems too much guesswork and paranoia to me.

Actually, this is exactly why you *should* use CheckUser IMHO.

All CheckUser allows you to do is lookup IP addresses. As long as that information is only available to a few moderators that's fine. Almost every site has such a feature one way or another. The information can be pulled from the server logs or database anyway and CheckUser improves on that by providing an interface and logging. No way to see who gets "CheckUser"-ed now.

What you have right now is half-arsed guesswork and rampant paranoia and drama about it ("Is that user a sock? Maybe, looks like it! But can't prove!) With CheckUser you can, well, check and either dispel or prove it.

With or without it, can't you just look at the raw logs and see which IPs correlate to which edits?

Of course, I'm assuming the retardation there is not complete and total, which may be optimistic. Surely someone there can do this.

Only David I think. But yes, it can be grepped from the logs. That's actually what I said:

"The information can be pulled from the server logs or database anyway and CheckUser improves on that by providing an interface and logging"

Oh, and it also provides verification: other mods can check if a conclusion is correct.

Even if CheckUser were used, surely any user with half a brain would be using a VPN or be behind manual proxies?

Why?

Última edición por un moderador:

Do you really need me to explain why a sock or a dupe registration would use proxies and why CheckUser would therefore be fairly useless?

As for more "legitimate" users, I for one would never trust Gerard with having access to any of my personal information, so posting behind a VPN would be the absolute minimum.

So you're happier with your IT guys knowing you're using TOR to browse during work hours?

It's not quite that clear cut. As it is my company I can kind of do what I want. But that's getting into the realm of truly boring.... my point was really that Smart users will surely get around any CheckUser function.
