This might be a hot take, I dont think being queer is a trend like some believe it is. A trend is an intense, short-lived fashion, interest, or activity that becomes highly popular very quickly and fades away just as fast. People on the internet wanting to be queer has been going on for over 10 years now. I feel like nowadays, queer has evolved into this alternative life style. Hell, I've seen people claim that a heterosexual relationship can be queer if you and your spouse dont have a traditional relationship. (Wife works whereas the husband is a stay at home dad) I mean sure there's probably a few kids who joined in on being queer when they were teenagers but grew out of it, but I feel like the internet to this day is really trying to convince a lot of these kids that being queer is this cool alternate lifestyle where you dont have to be a "boring" cis-straight person. I see it quite a bit still where these young people only ship gay or trans ships in fandoms and god forbid you like a straight ship.
