When Bob was alive, personally I thought it was kind of harmless. Chris would rage at his camera and whoever the recent villain was, but he always had a safe, warm place to sleep at night and was generally taken care of.

I felt a little bad about killing off the fake girlfriends, except he bounced back so quickly. He seemed fine.

I can see how the whole thing eroded his grip on reality and it also set the stage for later dipshits to come along. But at the time, it all seemed fairly harmless. Chris wasn't yet a quasi homeless insane person screaming by the side of the highway.

We also completely left when Bob died because that was a horrific game changer for Chris.

It was an experience you would just have to be there for. Surprising and unexpected. Cringe-worthy. What was once fun became notably and progressively lame and stupid with a logs trying to replicate smarter people who were there at the right time in the right moment. There was a lot of coordinating I think and the ones that were the best trolls knew how to strike when the iron was hot.

I think for the most part though Chris set himself up. Golden era trolls set the stage and populated it with good actors. But that's just my perspective from like early 2010s. We are talking like 13 years ago so sorry if my memory is a little rusty.

Random thought: the community most involved in Chris Chan is also the most protective of him, with good reason and for everyone's benefit. Speaking as someone who came across him on 4chan around 2005 but was never fully invested. If you ever try to insert yourself into his life, you will be doxxed. It's kind of the ultimate litmus test of "how famous do you really want to be online?" Every year the cost increases and any trolls who persist must resort to more extreme means, thereby increasing the reputational fallout of their inevitable doxxing. First it's "let's draw some fan art or invent a girl," then it's "let's encourage him to rape his own mother."

The internet really does amplify the worst impulses of humanity by demanding ever more extreme actions to become relevant online, and Chris was probably the first or best major victim of modern social media. I personally hope the Bigfoot Saga never ends and that Chris becomes yet another anonymous white male on medication and welfare. Not a happy outcome, but better than having random strangers attempt to photograph you everywhere you go.

Even before the incident with his mom, he was a danger to himself as well as others. Did someone seriously convince him to shatter one of his medallions and shove the shards up his ass? Was is because he was living with mom that deemed her a suitable caretaker for him at the time?

Now that Chris has reemerged online him singing about being "on the road to CWCville" has me thinking we might finally see Chris Chan traveling around the country. Probably living out of his car or with randos.
