The concept art for older sci fi is just awesome. I'm pretty take it or leave it on star wars now, but I'll always be impressed by Ralph McQaurries art.

The incredible designs in the original trilogy took a largely forgettable space opera and turned it into a cultural phenomenon. The new stuff just doesn't have the same staying power as the designs in the original trilogy. What always got me was the implication of a much larger universe than the one the story showed.
