Pre internet so people couldnt discuss these things. Also people didnt have that post internet skepticism (why would somebody post lies on the online?) Childhood memories become warped over time so people misremember parts of the game. But most importantly, people love the ever loving shit out of the game. They always want more out of it and are willing to let their minds roam with possibilities, especially when you consider how whimsical and magical it was for its time. I bet you can still find streamers playing it right now. And they hold the game under a magnifying glass and find every misaligned joint. In older games theres lots of hidden test assets left over, or developmental art featured in their magazine that doesnt make the final cut. For example in ocarina of time, theres a test jabbu's domain featuring a warp pedestal like the adult temples have, but was cut. It also features 60 jabbus. Go figure. Or the infamous cartridge tilt that gets the game to say "oh my god" and "i love you." It was found 20 years after the game came out. I dont doubt we'll find more cool or weird stuff now that the source code is leaked.

Personally i love the wet dry world skybox and have used it in projects. Its aesthetic as fuck but its a picture some japs put in a game. Nothing deeper than that despite what people think.
