I mean night star is chris's fan character, but maybe this hints to chris no longer having the ability to change to a sonichu and now he changes into a pony.(idk Im looking way to deep into this.)
Oh, thank god you pointed that out, I thought it was Naked Mermaid Hair Chris for a second. It's still weird and creepy as fuck, but at least slightly less so now.

There's a MLP episode about Spike reading comics, so I assume the reasoning behind Night Star being in the place of Chris on the comic cover is that it's "Spike"'s in-universe comic.
