/r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

Imagine if there’s a strategy game that covers all aspects of society, politics, and government (not just some half assed bullshit minigame). That would’ve been awesome!

GrishaPutin will be premier of Russia soon, believe it.
Just realized how on the nose Penelope’s web is for TNO. In the Odyssey, Penelope is being hounded by suitors who want to marry her because they believe Odysseus is dead. She promises to do so once she finishes weaving a shroud, so for three years she weaves then unweaves the shroud to stall the suitors. I guess the devs are Penelope and they’re working and reworking content because they’re stalling for realistic™️ content to happen. Has it been three years yet?
That makes way too much sense.

TFR is just what TNO should have been. It has a lot of similar plot beats:

Western libdems, an Asiatic super power that wants to exploit and expand its empire, nationalist/fascist European power that wants to dominate the continent

Both basically go through a decade +5 years for 15ish years of content

Many proxy wars before the big and main war kicks off

Lots of cultural events and memes of the decade its about

Maybe a bit of a stretch but am a former TNOxister who almost exclusively plays TFR now. There's just so much to do and they understand what HOI4 is. There is no faggotry about thermonuclear war. Hell in most of my games China and India get nuked and its just treated normally as nukes are in base HOI4 that a city got wiped. Even the concept and idea that the nation's politics chance and get radicalized based on if they lose is also just peak. Even my only complaint that there is no mega world war is going to be addressed where the mythical TFR2 will have a world war in the 30s once they stop being lazy niggers and finish the content for other nations. Meaning its possible they could actually do what TNO failed and have 2 decades worth of content from the 20s and the 30s.

I don't even hate TNO or really wished it terrible things. I am sad its just a dead mod due to the drama with slackjaw and Slavinxs. The monkey's paw curled and it just became a dead mod. To say nothing of the actual boring content they have planned we don't even get the boring content. Its just nothing. If they released the niggerlandia update it would be something. The Ieria update is just more skeleton content. A few pages back one of you fuckers said the biggest scam TNO ever pulled is making retards feel that nothing burger skeleton content updates is content but God damn is that true.

Does the Iberia update have content all the way up to 1972? Do any civil war tags have content?
As far as I know it's a full facelift of all content from the original release and it includes civil war trees too though I can't speak to their quality. All in all it really doesn't seem like such a bad update even if it might not be my personal cup of tea. I think most of the hate it got is because it's been three full years since there was a proper update and they keep forcing these B teams to cover for the fact that Germany gets reworked from scratch every five minutes. You almost feel bad for them since it's obviously not their fault that the teams for the superpower tags can't get their act together.

If you go into it with the right expectations and enjoy the kind of content you'd associate with modern TNO then you most likely will have an alright time for a weekend. They even seem to have a few decent proxy wars. Just don't go in expecting anything more.

Someone on their reddit pointed out it had been 11 months since the last TNO update. No they did not count Chilean Antarctica. Even TrooNO fans hate that and are not that delusional.

Chilean Antarctica is honestly over-hated. If it'd remained a submod no one would've cared. If they'd just released their content as side pieces to other updates no one would've cared either. It's such a nothingburger made by a small submodding team that just have a niche interest. But the sad reality is that the mod hasn't had a proper update since 2023 and then the leads trot out these small side projects by various integrated submod teams and make them bear the being of the community outrage over the mod's dire state while the people responsible for this rework hell shitpost on Discord 24/7.

But here's the thing, we were all promised this.

And I know Antartica is a separate specific team but imagine being promised all of that and got Chilean Antarctic content.

All true but it's not the fault of the integrated submodders that their bosses are lazy bums that spent five years reworking the mod with nothing to show for it. I have less than zero interest in Antarctica but at least those guys produced something playable (or readable if you will). What has the Germany devs completed in the same timeframe besides of disabling Goering's focus tree and arguing about politics on Discord? Not much but you knew that already. It just comes across like having random interns take the heat from angry customers over a scam that an exec pulled off.

Has anyone ever made any connections between the brutality of Cartels and the (genetic) legacy of the Aztecs, Mayans and other native Amerindians having a culture of human sacrifices and general savagery?
If I recall, Martyr Made had a segment on how the decedents of those "civilisations" have a anthropological "blood fetish" passed down by their ancestors cultural legacy. Considering how cults like Santa Muerte are growing in popularity in latam (especially among cartels), there is certainly some credence to this.

Martyr Made is a weepy, defeatist idiot. Anything he says is likely to be unsubstantiated or retarded, often both.
"blood fetish" passed down by their ancestors cultural legacy.
You could just as well say, and likely with better backing, that in the modern day it's from historical Catholic fixation on gruesome death in the Crucifixion and various martyrdom stories, and interactions with fairly brutal tribes like the Apache and Comanche in t 19th century, than some vague blood libel that Central Americans are "just like that okay". If it was the result of pre-christian cultural memory, then these cartels would be using the symbolism of the Nahua and Maya, but overwhelmingly they employ Catholic symbolic language.
