It's been 3 years since Silicon Dreams.Do any users here offer TNO a bit more leeway?
TFR promises to add significantly more engaging extremist off-the-wall content, where TNO has been almost entirely removing content or reworking (mutilating) it to be more boring and "realistic"Based on TFR's current mod progress where they promised the big American update last year but now people are predicting it will come out late this year and the mod team being embroiled in stupid drama.

They were criticized for failing to release toolbox theory on schedule or any other major update, yet TFR ,which most users here prefer have suffered the same pitfall.
Speaking of TNO and content... Stay tuned.TFR promises to add significantly more engaging extremist off-the-wall content, where TNO has been almost entirely removing content or reworking (mutilating) it to be more boring and "realistic"
people don't just have a problem with the dev time, but what is actually being promised
If we look back at the old roadmap again they didn't just break nearly all their promises but what people ended up getting in the end was Chilean Antarctica. If you got hyped for any of TNO's original content there's literally nothing for you to look forward to and the mod has brazenly abandoned its original audience. Meanwhile, TFR started development roughly around the time that the TNO roadmap was made and while their big 1.1 release hasn't happened yet we got the WEF in Europe, deep state America, a bunch of paths for Russia and a new proxy war. For the comparison to make sense TFR would have to actively work to replace all their wars with minigames for third world countries.Based on TFR's current mod progress where they promised the big American update last year but now people are predicting it will come out late this year and the mod team being embroiled in stupid drama.

THE NEU-DEVS FOLLOWED THE 4CHAN REDUX PLANSCan anyone who remembers give a full list and basic synopsis of each of Slack's videos? Also didn't Mountain General make a 2nd TNO drama video or am I just misremembering?
Edit: Found this while searching for more Slackjawed archives, but fucking nigger of a site won't let me download it without uploading documents of my own so screenshots will have to suffice.

TFR, at worst, has gone through the expected pains of being a extremely popular mod for a game with a very autistic player base. Even if 1.1 gets released on fucking December 31st, it is still leagues better than modern TNO. The fact is, every amateur modding team is going to suffer stupid drama, that isn't unique to TFR, TNO, Kaiserreich, or anything else, what is unique to TNO is how bad their "stupid drama" nuked any momentum the mod had, resulted in the loss of a lot of the identity TNO had, and left it a shambling corpse with a skeleton crew of idea guys and political activists.Based on TFR's current mod progress where they promised the big American update last year but now people are predicting it will come out late this year and the mod team being embroiled in stupid drama.

delays are somewhat expected in volunteer projects. ill start shitting on tfr hard when they dont release anything and instead of working on new content they start reworking old content 10 times overBased on TFR's current mod progress where they promised the big American update last year but now people are predicting it will come out late this year and the mod team being embroiled in stupid drama.

Pacifica lied,THE NEU-DEVS FOLLOWED THE 4CHAN REDUX PLANS
I'M DYING OF LAUGHTER
They were more like a student militia revolt, who were even worse than Heydrich for Germany. They would kill anyone's family who even associated with the NSDAP, which is a lot of people.Speer would face Red Army Faction revolt.
The DSR was basically 2020 CHAZ if they had access to an actual military's worth of equipment, nukes, and Raz was a 1970s German art hoe with terminal BPD.They were more like a student militia revolt, who were even worse than Heydrich for Germany. From what I remember they were also more like hooligans, terrorists and just rebels against society.
With probably only the top leadership even having access to the communist theory books, they just interpreted communism as it was in the propaganda books.
You just reminded me of how Willi Stoph could end up leading German Madagascar if the Reich won in earlier TNO versions. The DSR was basically 2020 CHAZ if they had access to an actual military's worth of equipment, nukes, and Raz was a 1970s German art hoe with terminal BPD.
Like many people here already said, the last major TNO update with Guangdong in early 2023 and the last update that was worthwhile was the japan facelift in late 2023. Meanwhile TFR despite making smaller updates between 1.0.7 (which introduced fan favourite paths like revanchist china and WEF and Gunther EU) and 1.1 has still made noticable content imo. For example, the Germany facelift was small but it did make both pre-war Germany more interesting, while also making post defeat Germany (especially the German communists) more fun to play due to them having a stronger economy.Based on TFR's current mod progress where they promised the big American update last year but now people are predicting it will come out late this year and the mod team being embroiled in stupid drama.

Yeah a lot of this was still in the After Midnight code. Plus I have the DSR tree that was teased way back when (it's entirely a skeleton to no ones surprise). I opted to reenable the anarchy because it would kind of be a bit weird to balance. Then you'd have to make a narrative excuse explaining why everyone isn't eating up the German sphere while the Reich is bust nuking itself. Plus, you get Schoerner anyway when he coups Goering, which has better game flow instead of intentionally not winning the GCW.Speaking of TNO cut content . Remember first thing that was cut?
It was part of the mod back in version 1.0 but it was removed almost instantly.
German civil war Anarchy .
If you didn't win civil war quickly enough it would enter anarchy phase.
Heydrich would be assasinated and Himmler would annex Luxembourg and alssace-Lorraine.
Goëring would be couped by militarists .
Speer would face Red Army Faction revolt.
Spiedl would join the fight
And Bormann would unleash German Nuclear Arsenal on his opponents.
There are still some remnants present in current civil war focus trees. Because last focuses tend to hint that you are running out of time.

Still the best TNO moment even after all these years. The whole livestream was meant to be a victory lap for Panzer over the chuds after the original release for TNO back in 2020 only to get pissed off over a troll. What a hive of villainy the old TNO dev team was. I don't regret their expulsion one bit.
As a small consolation here's the panzer rage clip with original audio.

¨In fact Panzer.Still the best TNO moment even after all these years. The whole livestream was meant to be a victory lap for Panzer over the chuds after the original release for TNO back in 2020 only to get pissed off over a troll.
"Fuck! Admmmiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"I hope your fucking happy"
I guess I've been the most forgiving to TNO on this thread. TNO has still failed a lot more than TFR. TNO has added substantial content only to Cutting Room Floor factions (planned for release but were pushed back so I can't really count it), Guangdong, Antarctica, two paths of Brazil and Chilean Antarctica. Elsewhere, its mostly been minor tweaks since the two devs that actually did stuff (Panzer and Pacifica) left for various reasons. All that I listed took like five years. Meanwhile, TFR has added multiple fun paths to the game over the course of a year and has given us every indication that 1.1 is actually going to come out at some point in our lives, even if not as soon as we'd like.Do any users here offer TNO a bit more leeway?
We (the HOI4 community) didn't deserve Panzer. One of the only visionaries of HOI4. A true creator.Still the best TNO moment even after all these years. I agree with a lot in your post but you got the timeline and some of the events wrong.I guess I've been the most forgiving to TNO on this thread. TNO has still failed a lot more than TFR. TFR's drama was also resolved relatively quick and didn't end with the constructive core of TFR leaving like in TNO, where Panzer and Pacifica ended up leaving and doing other things with their lives. TFR ended with just one guy leaving.
Very true. I'll argue that all this is basically downstream of Panzer boarding the last helicopter to CK3 and being unable to wrangle the tards left behind.Pacifica didn't permanently leave over the drama but did come back, finished the economic system, and was Russia lead for a while until Paradox hired the guy to work on Victoria 3. There were also others on the team that did their share of actual work otherwise we wouldn't have Guangdong which neither Panzer nor Pacifica worked on. I'd say that what actually killed all of the mod's momentum was the German rework and its scope creep since that has ended up leading to nearly the entire world being reworked. Several tags like France and Moscow owe numerous reworks to it and that might be the single worst decision in HOI4 modding history. It was also a deliberate decision by the Germany lead Lamounier, not some Discord drama. They've made plenty of bad calls like that which can't be explained by drama and I think you put too heavy of an emphasis on their drama and their two original leads.
