I'm thinking it's a handful of people realizing that making it onto /r/SubredditDrama weekly is not necessarily helping your cause. I think the subreddit overall is still insane, though.

I imagine it's more of a way for them to self-flagellate about how white people and Americans are shitty about not understanding/caring about the rest of the world. That's a pretty common theme in Ghazi.
I'm not sure if it's genuine self-awareness or more liberal guilt.

Assuming this isn't stdh.txt for a moment, I'm actually gonna give this dude the tiniest amount of credit for actually talking to the guy instead of silently quaking with rage and then going on a Ghazi/Twitter rant about white people being the worst thing ever, which seems to be the typical Ghazi response.
It's still a terrible thread, but at least it's not keyboard warrioring, which is all I'm used to seeing at Ghazi.

It's weird because while Ghazi isn't the most leftist of subreddits (they're very left, but there are some really extreme leftist subreddits on Reddit), they do fully buy into the identity politics aspect. I'd find it weird if they were learning not to apply identity politics to everything because that always seemed like the core of who they were.
If they are ever-so-slowly learning, there may be help for them yet.

I made a brief and fruitless attempt to try and extend an olive branch awhile back, and I quickly found that place is full of people who have long since made up their minds, and they'd rather deny God to His face than give up their own belief the world is a sexist shithole and they are the lone holdouts of sanity and decency.
