One half of my family was all GM workers and they had insanely good health insurance and pensions. Meanwhile auto unions tend to be blamed for the downfall of US car manufacturing. Who the fuck cares? Not your problem. Get yours.

To be fair the whole concept of defined benefit pension plans are unsustainable in the long term economically. They are also a bitch to do accounting for as you need to hire an Autist Actuarial to run complex calculations on mortality rates and all kinds of other facets to calculate the present value of the pension plans (and thus determine how much cash the company/government has to inject in a given year to keep the pension plan solvent)

That’s why many companies have switched to defined contribution pension plans where the plan is a separate entity (the company only matches or gives a percentage of what individuals decide to contribute). Way easier to account for on the company’s financial statements.

Personally I think pensions should be abolished completely minus for their original recipients being war veterans. It should be the family’s responsibility to care for their elders and the elders responsibility to pass on their assets to their descendants when they are still alive. (Moving from the master bedroom to a first floor apartment connected to or next to the main house)

The beginning of the purge was only a week or two ago when someone posted that tranny thread and they banned or harassed tons of people who thought they should keep their dick out of the subreddit.

This might be the reality in the US before too much longer. Nursing home costs are getting crazy. Sending your parents to the nursing home is very likely going to melt your entire inheritance if they live for more than a few years.

Hello guys!
I am from 1 million city 5 hours away from Moscow. On Reddit for a while, but mostly for memes and seen this subreddit on main page for a while and decided to check it out.
Guys, I am purely shocked. You should really be on barricades right now with these working conditions. Let me explain why is that in simple facts. In Russia, under mafia rule, cleptocracy and small businesses hard to impossible to survive, every single worker from dishwasher and cashier to top managers has following rights:

1. 14 days vacation every six months. 21 days for dangerous professions, two months for school teachers (logically summer holiday). Unused vacation days are paid in cash according to your salary during last 6 months of your employment if you leave.
2. Sick leaves are mandatory to be paid. Companies MUST pay to social security fund and you get paid sick leaves, from 20 to 100% of your salary depending on years you worked at one place. Also, most companies offer two 100% paid weeks for sick leaves per year after 1 year.
3. All night shifts are paid x1.5, no matter what. All shifts during your free days are paid X2 or exchanged to free day whenever you want.
4. If you are a pregnant, you get 70 fully 100% paid days before the child born and 70 days after, 140 days in total.
5. In addition to number 4, one of parents can take 1.5 years (right, YEARS) of "take care of children" vacation and receive 40% of the salary. The employer is not allowed to fire you during that period and not allowed to fire you immediately after.
6. If your position is cut and you are fired cause of that, you must receive x3 of your monthly salary as a bonus.
7. You cannot be fired without agreement with you for other reasons, unless you have formal complaints in your personal formal government "labor book" (which is extremely rare case). All complains must comply with labor laws. If you are fired without such complaints, or if they are not strong enough, the labor inspection will go in a court for you and make the company take you back + pay full salary for the period you were "fired" + compensation. 80% of court cases are won by the labor inspection.

Like guys, that's the basic stuff. You are the richest country of the world. Your companies are INSANELY rich and they threat their workers like garbage. Each time I read about peebottles in Amazon I think "any currier in Russia would throw this peeebottle right in manager's face, make it viral in social media and nobody would work there ever again".

A few loose thoughts on this:

1) At this point the contents of this cringeass subreddit don't matter, what matters is the sentiment that its popularity conveys.
2) Finding an unbelievably retarded post on reddit is very easy and serves as good ragebait, but ultimately it misses the point. I don't think most redditors even know what they're actually bitching at but it doesn't mean there isn't anything TO complain about.
3) Expressed or perceived political affiliation of people is ultimately unimportant. If you put a commie in a situation he'd feel comfortable with, he will stop being a commie. Actually malicious and "unfixable" people are rare. Political divides are the white noise of a conversation, ultimately extremism is unsustainable and an actually functioning system is a balance of "conflicting" ideologies.

4) Blaming people who got a worthless college degree and got themselves into debt they have almost no way of paying off is silly, you're essentially choosing to blame a 17yo for 1 short-sighted decision he possibly couldn't have been properly informed on instead of the college system that facilitates fucking him over for decades.
5) One of essential needs for people to thrive is security, and as of now low end jobs no longer provide it. You don't have a stable home because all you can do is rent 20m2 with 2 friends (big cities), you're constantly at risk of getting replaced or fucked over by an import-wagie, you don't have savings. Those causes constant stress for wagies, and has a real tangible impact on their life and physical health.
6) Its unreasonable to expect downtrodden people to be motivated, to "suck it up" and just fix their life. Just like telling a depressed person to "get over it", a tacit admission that you don't know what to do, or don't want to help. No man is a mountain, ultimately society exists for people to help one another so instead of bitching at them "lazy" scumbags we should look for ways of helping them. Even when they're insufferable.

7) Jobs that are undesirable should be well paid, jobs that are comfortable don't have to. Because of necessity in paid higher education this logical balanced is inverted, giving people no incentive to work low end jobs and ample incentive to get fucked over by a college.
8) Companies have been pushing off responsibility for mental health on their workers, instead of creating conditions for them to be healthy. PR and mitigating conflicts through essentially subterfuge is used instead of actual attempts at help. If you don't want mental care from the government, then you should expect it from your company.

9) Corporations are growing increasingly inefficient but still stifle smaller companies in many sectors, solely due to the amount of assets they have. Thus the market can't fix itself.
10) Similarly, growing income inequality is destabilizing the market. Money makes more money at the expense of those who don't have money, ultimately making everyone suffer as the market becomes volatile and disconnected from people its supposed to serve.
11) Increased volatility of the market has already reduced average standard of life greatly, as an example the current housing market is driving up prices of property at the expense of this property actually being used, and just because people have more faith in holding a house than holding its equivalent in cash. Many cities in europe are currently building urban sprawls despite their centers laying essentially abandoned due to inflated prices.
12) Tangentially related. The rise in crypto scams also contributes to this, and their popularity are a result of people desperate to not be a part of a broken system. Ultimately this concerns you too, if enough suckers lose money on a scam YOU lose money too, in an indirect way. Cryptocurrencies pushed us years ahead of schedule for an economic collapse.

Some of this could be feasibly mitigated by the government taking power and regulating corporations but i don't see this happening until something drastic and violent happens.

With the amount of forgiven PPP loans, student debt cancellation should just happen BUT I also agree that a loan is a loan.

The interest on student loans should be determined by level of income, and some loan forgiveness in desirable sectors should be considered, and the loans should be dischargeable by bankruptcy. It's completely unfair to be saddled with a loan that you literally cannot pay off or get rid of short of leaving the country.
