When I was young, my ambition was to be one of the people who made a difference in this world. My hope still is to leave this world a little bit better for my having been here.

It's a wonderful life, and I love it.

"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those timid spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat."

- Jaimas' Father, moments before setting off 3 entire window-boxes full of bottle rockets and getting the police called on him

The entire Gospel of John is what I live by, as I've studied it in class for years. There are many intricacies that are hard to spot for a first time reader. Scholarly opinions can help view it from a secular point of view, which makes the religious aspect much more meaningful. Still, if I had to choose one quote, it would be:

John 15:1-17. New Standard Revised Version is generally considered to be the most accurate translation by scholarly consensus.

"The normal make a living, the deranged make history."
--Christopher Titus

"One man's joy makes another man weep
Nothing you can do is ever gonna change it
One man's saint is another man's fool
One man's hot is another man's cool"
--Genesis, "One Man's Fool"

"In the beginning Man created God; and in the image of Man created he him."
And Man gave unto God a multitude of names, that he might be Lord over all the earth when it was suited to Man.
And on the seven millionth day Man rested and did lean heavily on his God and saw that it was good...
...And Man became the God that he had created and with his miracle did rule over all the earth.
But as all these things did come to pass, the Spirit that did cause man to create his God lived on within all men...
And Man saw it not.
But for Christ's sake he'd better start looking."
--Jethro Tull

I live by the gospel of Yogi Berra:

"It ain't over 'til it's over."
"Always go to other people's funerals; otherwise they won't go to yours."
"I knew the record would stand until it was broken."
"I really didn't say everything I said."

"If people don't want to come to the ballpark how are you going to stop them?"
"If you don't know where you're going, you might not get there."

"Ninety percent of the putts that are short don't go in."
"We made too many wrong mistakes."
"You can observe a lot by watching."
"When you come to a fork in the road, take it."

"I am me, nobody else!"
--Roxas, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

The actual context of the quote was Roxas' response to Riku when he pointed out that Roxas was Sora's Nobody after their fight at the end of the game, but I've taken it as an expression of individuality, as in "I'm only me, fuck your labels". In other words, don't let people label you and be true to yourself.

If I could copy and paste the entirety of the "On War and Warriors" chapter of Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra, I would, but I'll just leave this:

"You say it is the good cause that hallows even war? I say: it is the good war that hallows any cause."

Everything is about sex except for sex. Sex is about power. - Oscar Wilde
You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning. - My old boss

When I was small and got into trouble, my father would often say to me; "Better to tell the truth and endure the punishment than lie and endure the guilt".

Also my motto; "You don't need a reason to help people." - Zidane Tribal, Final Fantasy IX

"Who dares, wins." - British SAS

"In this world, he who dares, wins. There's always these guys that whine "I thought of that first!". If you thought of it first, maybe you should have done it first." - Toshio Okada, Blue Blazes

I sometimes have to remind myself of those quotes every time I get cold feet.
