Who can attain to anything great if he does not feel in himself the force and will to inflict great pain? The ability to suffer is a small matter: in that line, weak women and even slaves often attain masterliness. But not to perish from internal distress and doubt when one inflicts great suffering and hears the cry of it — that is great, that belongs to greatness.
Honestly, this sounds psychotic.

It is not advocating psychopathy. Psychopathy involves the lack of empathy so to overcome it is not strength at all and a psychopath is unable to motivate themselves into action with empathy. A psychopath likely has a significantly weaker will than others. Greatness is about having firm interpersonal boundaries a clear sense of self and not letting the negativity of others bring you down. A psychopath claiming to be strong is like someone who has never seen battle a day in their life claiming that they are courageous

"Iiii liiiiiiike big BUTTS and I cannot lie..." -- Sir Mix-A-Lot.

“You can safely assume you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.”

Upon this, one has to remark that men ought either to be well treated or crushed, because they can avenge themselves of lighter injuries, of more serious ones they cannot; therefore the injury that is to be done to a man ought to be of such a kind that one does not stand in fear of revenge.

Men rise from one ambition to another: first, they seek to secure themselves against attack, and then they attack others.

The more sand has escaped from the hourglass of our life, the clearer we should see through it.

Never was anything great achieved without danger.

The idea that one’s sex is a feeling, not a fact, has permeated our culture and is leaving casualties in its wake. Gender dysphoria should be treated with psychotherapy, not surgery. --Paul McHugh

"Fairy tales do not give the child his first idea of bogey. What fairy tales give the child is his first clear idea of the possible defeat of bogey. The baby has known the dragon intimately ever since he had an imagination. What the fairy tale provides for him is a St. George to kill the dragon."
- G.K. Chesterton, Tremendous Trifles.

Though I am also just as fond of the often mis-quoted version - “Fairy tales do not tell children dragons exist. Children already know the dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed.” - as I always interpreted it not as a child being given hope that their demons can be defeated, but rather that the 'dragons' are symbolic of imagination and hope and the like; while the 'fairy tales' in which they die are the ways that adults and reality try to quash it. Though it seems like a more pessimistic viewpoint, I always took it to heart as reason to 'believe harder' in said metaphorical dragons.

...I was a very spergy kid for literature symbolism and dragons, all right?

"Death is a farcical pile of bullshit. I refuse to participate."
- The Oatmeal, I have had firsthand experience with an undead parrot, -OR- Grump the Parrot, Part 2

"Fame allows you to pretend that you are important. Having money allows you to pretend others are not. Being smart makes both irrelevant." - Lupe Fiasco

"Don't expect to get answers by someone. Don't expect to be catered to all the time. We all have to find our own answers" - Hideaki Anno

"In school tests, there's only one answer for each question, and you might get zero or half points if you're wrong. But in the real world, things aren't so black and white, so think about things on your own and express them in words or pictures. That's how you communicate with people. That's so important." - Hideaki Anno

“Being polite is not only the right way to respond to people but also the easiest. Life is so filled with unavoidable conflict that I see no reason to promote more confrontations.”
― Dean Koontz, Odd Thomas

“Everything takes time. Bees have to move very fast to stay still.”
― David Foster Wallace, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men
